URGENT NEED: A LIFT FOR IAN
Hi, My name is Ian Muraski and I need help getting a special lift system installed in my home so my mom doesn't have to lift me anymore.
I am a member of the Life Experience and Peace Abbey community in Millis. Lots of people know me because I often sing at Jasper Hill Cafe in Holliston. It is a really cool venue for good food, music and making friends.
I am 24 years old, have cerebral palsy and need full assistance getting in and out of my wheelchair. I need help to simply get myself in and out of bed. I also need to be lifted to use the toilet and to take a shower. We call these " transfers".
My mom resigned from her job a few years ago to take care of me. She does my transfers several times a day and I now weigh over 175 pounds. This is not a simple or safe task. I want to do a fundraiser to get my own Surehands System installed in my bedroom and bathroom. This way, I can then transfer without anyone hurting themselves or dropping me on the floor which I am afraid will happen. (There are other less expensive systems, but they are too big to fit in our small bathroom.)
You can watch how the Surehands System works . It can be installed in my home and can be taken and installed in any new place I might live in the future.
I am taking on the responsibility of fundraising with the help of my friends at the Life Experience School. Getting this system would mean I wouldn't worry about others lifting me. It would also allow us to hire a PCA to assist with my care which would be awesome and would create some independence for me.
Thanks for helping me out as best you can. This system would make a big difference in my life. With it I won't be solely dependent on my Mom and I won't worry about her lifting me. It would be so much safer for us both and will open doors to greater independence.
Perhaps I could sing for you, as a way of saying
Thanks for your help.
