Dalton is an 18 year old living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He has lost almost all movement in his body except for his hands and head. He uses a ventilator to help him breathe and  a nasal feeding tube because he can no longer feed himself. Despite this, Dalton is a wonderful kid that brings joy to everyone he meets.


Dalton was hospitalized for 7 days on 12/1 for a stage 3 pressure ulcer.  It will be at least a month before it is fully heald. The healing time could be decreased drastically if he had the right bed.



Dalton needs a fully functional therapy bed but his insurance only covers a basic adjustable frame bed. He has already worn out three of these cheap beds and it's very difficult for him to get into positions that are comfortable and for his parents to position and transfer him. He is prone to pressure ulcers and needs a better solution as soon as possible!

We are hoping to raise funds to buy a Hill-Rom TotalCare® P500 therapy bed and mattress . This bed is specially designed around the needs of immobile patients like Dalton who have a high risk for pressure ulcer development. 

The surface technology addresses pressure, shear, friction and heat—the four main extrinsic causes of pressure ulcers. Its weight based pressure redistribution system permanently communicates with the bed’s scale system to generate the optimum pressure redistribution settings in four different zones and in any bed position. 

Advanced Microclimate Technology removes excess heat and moisture from the surface for cooler, dryer skin, helping to prevent moisture lesions and increase patient comfort. 

In addition, this bed is fully positionable. It can sit dalton fully upright like a recliner, lay him flat like a bed, tilt his body downwards to aid in positioning and everything in between.
