We all know and love Bede Parkes. All of us in someway have been touched by her generosity, kindness and loving nature.
She is a pillar of our community, always lending a helping hand to people in need.
She has been involved with Helensburgh Catholic Church her whole life and has spent at least 40 years helping out Holy Cross Catholic School and their annual Fete. She is also a lifetime member of the Junior Tigers Rugby League. Plus a volunteer for St Vincent De Paul in Helensburgh just to name a few.
She is a regular fundraiser for anything and anyone that needs a helping hand and always raffling outside Coles in any type of weather.
She has tirelessly cooked and baked till the early hours of the morning for people in tough times especially dropping off her homemade pikelets, lattice slice, sandwiches, relishes and chutneys to families after a funeral or birthdays and other events and will never accept anything other than a hug and a chat.
She is also known to drive people from town to hospitals, appointments, funerals or even to just go shopping.
The reason for this Go Fund me page is to try and give something back to her and help her through the tough time she is facing at the moment.
Bede was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in her bowel a few months ago, she recently had the tumour removed and spent quite a lot of time in hospital after a few complications.
She is now slowly recovering with her family’s help. At this stage still has a very long journey ahead which will include chemo therapy, when she is well enough to start that. It will be for 6 months and hopefully no more than that. It has broken everyone’s heart that she has to go through this and hopefully this will ease the financial burden a little for her and show her how much she is loved and adored by everyone in Helensburgh.
