Hi my name is Lisa, I’m trying to raise money to help my son ‘Mikey’.
A bit of background, Mikey has autism and adhd and wasn’t diagnosed till he was 20. I was fighting for a diagnosis since he was 1 but was told I’m wrong so I plodded on. When he was 15 he was taken advantage of by drug dealers, I didn’t really realise till he was almost 18, by then it was too late. He thought they were just wanting his friendship and due to how his brain works, he thought he was right. Time passed and he got a flat and knew then there was nothing I could do. There is no excuse for someone that chooses drugs and the only reason I carried on trying to get through to him was purely as he has autism. He was such a loving boy growing up and I felt like I’d lost him. Well I had to keep living normal even though I knew Mikey’s life was probably going to end. I went on holiday in 2019 and I got a text off Mikey telling me not to contact him and he loved me, I knew something was seriously wrong. I called my daughter and she had received a similar text and as I was out of the country she decided to go and look for him. A few hours later my daughter phoned me and said she had got him, he was safe but he had been battered and tortured. I got home the following day and he was a mess, he was crying and sobbing, he told me this had happened because he had told the dealers he wanted to stop and get clean to which they weren’t happy about. They took his phone, bike and everything he owned. I told him if he doesn’t go through rehab I wanted nothing to do with him and he begged me for help and told me he really wanted his life back. He moved back home with us and gave his flat up, we got him into rehab. It was awful watching him shivering and in pain on his journey but……he did it. A 10 month long and very hard journey and only one slip up and was clean. He got a lovely house from a housing association and a girlfriend. He still struggled trying to stay clean but he did it. He took on his girlfriends daughter as his own and had two more children, a boy and a girl. His step dad and myself were so proud as were his 5 siblings. He’d got his life back and was looking for work. Along the way his teeth began to rot due to the excessive use of drugs and my boy was in so much pain constantly but he still didn’t turn back to drugs, even though no painkillers worked. He sat rocking with the pain and crying but he knew it was his own fault that he was in this situation. There wasn’t and still isn’t a dentist that is taking NHS patients so he had to suffer. He was in that much pain he actually pulled one of his own teeth out but unfortunately it was all his teeth that were infected. We finally got him an emergency appointment at a dentist and he told Mikey that all he can do is take one tooth out but he needed all of them out and the dentist agreed there was no point in taking just one out and due to his past he told Mikey he would give him antibiotics to stop pain till we can get him seen somewhere. He suggested to have a private consultation which would be £65 and go down the private route. We have no way we can even pay for the first consultation. That’s when I decided to do this gofundme. I know most people will say it’s his own fault which it really is and he accepts that but he has worked so hard to stay clean even when we lost his step dad that he was very close to and he promised him that he wouldn’t ever choose drugs again. I really can’t describe the pain he is going through daily with his teeth but I really want to help him to get them sorted and the only option the dentist gave him was to have all his teeth removed and false teeth put in. He’s so embarrassed as he is only 29 and he can’t smile and always has his hand over his mouth. He’s an absolute amazing Daddy to his kids and I just want to give him what he deserves after battling so long.
