Becoming Blackbird

Dear Esteemed Clients and Friends,

Some of our relationships with you have been years in the making. You have traveled to us from every corner of the DMV, and sometimes even further, and we have been together through a lot. You have sat in our chairs, told us about your day, shared a laugh or a deep conversation, and have become hugely important people in our lives. We have become invested in you through the artistry of making beautiful hair in hopes of contributing to your well-being. We miss you and are praying that you and your families are safe and healthy in this unexpected time. We can’t thank you enough for all of the years of loyalty and support that you have so generously provided. We love you.

As you know, COVID-19 has dealt a devastating blow to our industry in more ways than one. But without rain, there are no flowers. In this time of transition, Devin and Justine have been working diligently to start their own journey to salon ownership. They had an opening timeline of July before all of this chaos, which has been miraculously unaffected. That being said, hairstylists are commission based service provider and our incomes are undoubtedly taking a hit. And without our clients, we are not making income. We have been out of work since March 14th, a total of 6 weeks without income that we were depending on to stay on track with the opening of our own salon - not to mention the weeks to come without any financial stability. But we are determined and fighting to keep our plans on track, and we are asking for any help possible.

Many of you have been so kind as to reach out to us and inquire about the best way to support us during this difficult time.  We appreciate you beyond belief. And as difficult as it is for us to ask for help, at this point we have no choice. Our Salon would be grateful for any donation you can make to help us pay for the final bills to get this long-awaited vision up and running. Justine and Devin will not accept any funds from your donations personally as they would like only the salon and its employees to benefit. Together Justine and Devin have personally funded 90% of this start up on their own, but are now asking for your love and support.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 dollars, the majority of which would go towards our build out. In the event that we are unable to reach our goals, we hope you can accept that we will still use what we can and your contribution will ease some of the anxiety and economic strain. We are immensely thankful for any help you are able to provide. Among other things, this virus has taught us the importance of human connection and maintaining hope. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today.

We know this is a very difficult time for everyone, however a little goes a long way and we are extremely appreciative of any help. If you feel inclined to contribute, we would love to reciprocate your generosity. For anyone who donates $100 we will be giving back 1 product. For anyone who donates $250 we will be giving back 2 products and a complementary blow out. For anyone who donates $500 we will offer a Full Service with one product included.

Justine, Devin and the Blackbird Salon staff send our love and best wishes to you and your loved ones. Rest assured that we can all bear this hardship together. We look forward to seeing you soon and welcoming you to our new salon. We hope you are as excited about this as we are.

Sincerely,
Blackbird Salon
