The Orthodox Christian Faith in Wales goes back as far as the first century, when St Aristobulus—one of the seventy sent out by the Lord in Luke 10—came to Britain and served as the first bishop among the Celtic peoples of the islands. Tradition tells us that he was known as Aristobulus the Old (Arwystli Hen), and that he died a martyr's death in Wales.
From those first seeds, the Faith grew until it came to full bloom in the sixth century, when countless saints arose and became living testaments to Christ. Today, their legacy is written into the very landscape of Wales, remembered in the sacred place names scattered across our country.
Who We Are & Our Vision
The Orthodox Christian Parish of St Theodore of Tarsus and St Teilo of Llandaff seeks to carry on this sacred legacy right here in South Wales. We are a growing, vibrant community dedicated to bringing the ancient, unbroken tradition of Orthodox Christianity back to the heart of the local community.
To this end, early in 2026, our parish was blessed with an incredible, providential opportunity: we purchased a stunning, historic church building on the outskirts of Cardiff.
Why We Need Your Help
Acquiring this beautiful building is just the first step in a long journey. After centuries of shifting history, we are bringing Orthodox worship back to this space, creating a spiritual home for families, seekers, and future generations.
However, breathing new life into a historic structure requires collective effort. To make this church a fully functioning place of worship, we need to raise funds for:
Installation of Basic Amenities: Requiring a new toilet block, a kitchenette, and a space for fellowship.
Liturgical Preparation: Creating a traditional Orthodox worship space, including the iconostasis and sacred vessels.
Essential Restoration: Preserving the structural integrity and historical beauty of the building.
Be a Part of Living History
Every saint who walked these lands started with a simple act of faith. By supporting the Parish of St Theodore and St Teilo, you are directly contributing to the revival of ancient Christianity in Wales.
Whether you can give financially, share this campaign with others, or keep our parish in your prayers, you are helping us lay the foundations for the next thousand years of faith.
Thank you for your generosity, your prayers, and for standing with us as we build a home for Christ in Cardiff.
The Parish of St Theodore and St Teilo is a canonical Orthodox community under the Archdiocese of Orthodox Churches of Russian Tradition in Western Europe (MP). Our ruling hierarchy is Metropolitan Jean of Dubna, based on Rue Daru in Paris.
