In February of last year, Coleen, my friend, and co-worker at The Container Store for 20+ years let me know that her daughter, Leslie (a TCS alum) had been diagnosed with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer. Leslie is 39, a single mom, full of energy and sass. In true Leslie fashion, she approached the diagnosis as if it were another one of her life's obstacles-something she would overcome.
Leslie shares her 14-year-old daughter with her ex-husband who lives out of state and has very serious medical issues of his own.
Leslie has put on a brave face through all the treatments, which were mostly “no big deal”. But a few weeks ago, she had a doozie chemo that kicked her butt. This treatment caused a reaction that brought Leslie to the ER. Due to one doctor’s diligence, ordering lots of tests, they discovered that the cancer metastasized to her spinal fluid. This news was a gut punch. Leslie and her family are considering all options they have left to try.
This week, Coleen and Leslie’s dad, Lance, will be traveling with Leslie to Houston in an RV (because she can’t be exposed to germs) to visit MD Anderson Cancer Center for multiple appointments they have set up with wonderful specialist that will work hard to prolong Leslie’s life.
We ask for support for any medical bills that are beyond insurance coverage, travel and meal expenses for the family and anything else that may come up along the way. Anything that is collected beyond what is immediately needed will be used to set up a trust for Leslie’s daughter.
Thank you!
