Hello all!! My name is Shannon and I am fundraising for my mothers battle to beat Ovarian cancer.
If you know my mother, Rebecca, you know the selfless, loving person that she is and has always been.
A God fearing woman who would do anything for those she cares about while asking nothing in return. She has spent her life raising my siblings and me. Once we were mostly grown she began spending her time taking care of others including her oldest sister who passed of Breast cancer in 2011 And her middle sister who just lost her life in November 2022 to ovarian cancer.
All while knowing in the last few months of my aunts battle that she was beginning to experience health issues of her own. She put her own health on hold to be there for someone else without a second thought. She came back home and we could tell some things were going on even if she refused to complain.
She had hoped to wait it out until her insurance coverage began this coming April, but at the end of December the pain was so great she agreed to go and have some tests done. At that initial visit they discovered a mass on her ovary that measured 10cmx6cmx6cm. Around the size of a grapefruit. So the referrals and the appointments and blood work and other test began. In this time she has been cash paying these expenses the best she can and dreading the charges that are to come.
We were just informed Friday 1/20 at the oncologist about the surgery she must have in 2-3 weeks time. We also spoke with a financial advisor at the hospital where the surgery will take place. She is looking at a bill of over 20,000 dollars just with the hospital and fees for the surgeon. That is not including the charges she has already incurred of close to 10,000 up to this point. We were also informed that each chemo treatment will be “thousands” per session but we are hopeful that can wait for insurance to come into effect. We have attempted to apply for Medicaid but she makes right over the income allowance. We also just missed the cut off date for applying for personal insurance for the year.
My mother would never ask this for herself so here I sit, setting down my pride and asking for a helping hand for her, after all that she has sacrificed for myself and my five siblings and for so many others in her life we simply want to give her the help she desperately needs to try and win this battle without additional worries.
