Becky & Ray Brooks' Medical Expenses
Donation protected
I am asking for financial help on behalf of my good friends Becky and Ray Brooks. Over the past year Ray and Becky Brooks have jumped tremendous hurdles to take care of many, complicated and extensive financial concerns for their health needs. I have known Becky and Ray for over 15 years, and they are a wonderful, talented, kind, generous couple. Becky is a talented musician & musical director, but since COVID-19 hit, she has been out of work since March of 2020. Ray continues to work as an office manager for a citrus nursery for 16 years, but his income cannot possibly cover their current medical expenses. Please read about their medical needs and pray about how you might wish to help.
Becky went to the ER in March 2020, at the beginning of COVID-19 with Vertigo and high blood pressure (over 250), then in April she went to the ER for large kidney stones in both kidneys. They are incredibly grateful for the blessing that most of the hospital bills ($80,000 and up) from her visits have been covered, except for the doctor bills of $1,394 and the ambulance ride of $2,065. Over the past year Becky has tried her best to keep up with taking care of the bills but it has become overwhelming with no relief in sight. So Becky’s total outstanding bills are $3,459.
About the same time, Ray went to the Veteran's hospital where it was discovered he has a pinched nerve along his spine and one in his elbow. Currently all bills through the VA are paid. He sees a neurosurgeon in March 2021 to decide what to do next. The biggest news is that Ray has many issues with his teeth. He needs to have 14 teeth removed NOW because they are infected, and the rest of his teeth need to be removed so that he can get dentures. This is an immediate medical need since infection is extremely dangerous, as it can spread in his blood stream and puts his physical health at risk.
He has seen a local dentist who is willing to give him a discount, but he needs to have a credit card that will cover the total amount to be able to get started. Becky and Ray have applied several times to get one, but because they have little debt (except for medical bills) they have been denied. They have $1,500 saved to be able to get started, but the first initial payment is $1,735. The dentist cannot proceed until funds are made available. The next dental visits for Ray are $1,434, plus $360, and then another $1,735. This is a total of $5,264 just to cover the basic dental plan of extraction and dentures.
Therefore the grand total (to make sure they cover anything unexpected) that we are trying to raise for them is $10,000. It has been a “rough row to hoe” for them because of the waiting for approval of procedures, checking out various doctors, and a lack of funds to proceed. A special thanks goes out to those who have already helped by prayers, donations and standing by them through this difficult journey. As a family they covet your prayers above all. Thank you for any amount you can contribute to help Becky and Ray Brooks. If you know them personally you may contact them privately. I appreciate everyone and the GoFundMe team. Sincerely, Vicki Meiners.
