Dear Friends,
Part of the magic of this time of year is the way it tunes our hearts to the music of love within, between, and among us. All of us who know and love Becky as we do have been so blessed by the song of her love and the gift of her music, so generously and lovingly shared with so many. Thus it is that we begin this update with a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has already contributed on Becky’s behalf. The outpouring of donations was awe inspiring and was hugely instrumental in allowing Becky to stay in her home as she works toward improved health. And indeed, it is the example of Becky’s friend, Lisa Blackburn, in first establishing this Go Fund Me site that has led us, Becky’s Co-Pastors, to offer this update on Becky’s situation, by way of encouraging whatever additional and/or continuing support any of us may be able to share.
We are pleased to report that Becky has been able to work with an attorney to file an appeal of the initial denial of her disability claim. With that appeal being submitted this week, we especially ask for your prayers for a favorable decision this time. Becky has also had a positive experience with a new IV medication that was giving her promising results. She even enjoyed two days where her energy and ability to concentrate felt nearly normal. Unfortunately, this welcome reprieve was short lived as her health insurance will no longer pay for this medication. Becky is hoping to be able to pay out of pocket for the medication once her appeal comes through - thinking positively - and is very hopeful for a full recovery. In the meantime, we are all invited to share yule tide cheer with Becky and help keep Joy singing in her heart, especially during this holiday season, through offering whatever financial support might be possible for us, so that perhaps she might resume this helpful medication even now, while awaiting a decision on her appeal.

With prayers and blessings for Becky,
Heartfelt appreciation for the beautiful music of our shared love for Becky,
And wishing us all the peace and joy of this holy-day season,
Revs. Susan & John Gregory-Davis, Co-Pastors, Meriden Congregational Church, UCC

I am opening this Go Fund Me site for my dear friend, Becky Luce.  Many of us in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont have had the benefit of having this wonderful person in our community and in our lives. She has been a music teacher, choral director and band conductor in the area for over 40 years. She has touched our lives, our children's lives and our hearts in innumerable ways. Now, she needs your help.

Becky has been diagnosed with three tick-borne diseases - Lyme, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Babesiosis.  She has been unable to perform the duties of her job as the Ray Elementary School music teacher since January of 2018. She has applied for disability but has shockingly been denied even though she has tested positive for these diseases and both of her physicians have submitted documentation in support of her qualification for disability.  Friends, family, and colleagues have come to her aid as she has awaited this decision. Her church has helped with weekly meals and rides. Piano students have taken her grocery shopping and stacked her bags of pellets for her woodstove. A local pet care facility has allowed her dogs to continue to go to daycare for deferred payment. Countless friends and colleagues have helped her with her dogs and other necessities of life that have become hard for her to do. But now that her disability claim has been denied and she is facing a long legal process to appeal, what Becky needs, is funds. She needs money to pay for her basics – mortgage, car, utilities, food. She is even having to give up her beloved dogs - Lil’ Bit is up for adoption and Obi is staying with our family long term. Becky is doing her part and applying for social services to help with these things, but I know, that so many people here in the Upper Valley and beyond, if they knew her desperate situation, would contribute what they could to help her through this time.
Tick-borne diseases are a constant threat to all of us who love the outdoors and cannot resist the call of the woods and the garden. This could be any of us. It sickens my heart that an insurance company could deny her disability claim for what is obviously incapacitating Lyme disease - but that is for the lawyers to address. What I can do for my friend now is to help her raise enough funds to avoid losing her house and her car after she has lost so much that brings meaning to her life – her ability to give music to our children and light to their hearts. Please help Becky in anyway you can.

Sincerely,
Lisa Blackburn
