Help The Becker family Cover $12,000 in Emergency Vet Bills

Over the past few weeks, The Beckers (Jennifer, Kurt and their kids Ally and Nicholas) have taken on more than $12,000 in unexpected veterinary expenses trying to treat serious infections in both of their rabbits, Yoshi and Elphie.

What started as minor issues quickly escalated into multiple procedures, specialist visits, and ongoing care for both rabbits at the same time.

Yoshi’s Story
In January, Yoshi developed a slight head tilt and was seen by the vet for what appeared to be a minor infection. After treatment and a follow-up visit, he seemed to be improving.

The next day, swelling appeared on the side of his face and rapidly worsened. He was referred to Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island, where a CT scan revealed severe dental disease and a significant abscess.

Yoshi required surgery to remove infected teeth and the abscess. He is now recovering well, but the procedure and follow-up care were extensive.

Elphie’s Story
Around the same time, Elphie began having issues with a clogged tear duct and nasal discharge. Despite treatment, her condition did not improve.

She developed a bump on her nose that turned out to be a persistent infection. Over the course of six weeks, the family made frequent vet visits and managed daily care at home, trying to resolve it without surgery.

When the infection did not respond to treatment, Elphie ultimately needed a surgical procedure to remove the infected tissue.

The Situation Now
Both rabbits required ongoing care, procedures, and medications — all within the same short timeframe.

The Becker’s adopted Yoshi and Elphie and have always made sure they are well cared for. Faced with these situations, they moved forward with the treatment they needed without hesitation.

The total cost of their care has now exceeded $12,000, creating a significant and unexpected financial burden.

If you’re able to contribute, any amount would help offset these costs. Sharing this page is also greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.
