Becca's Starting Over Fund

Becca is a single mother of two, and has been a first responder for 8 years. A year and a half ago, she was set to begin nursing school, when she was sexually assaulted, and physically attacked by a co- worker while on the job in a remote cabin that doubles as their station.

She reported the incident, but after the perpetrator was fired, his friends, their coworkers, retaliated against her. She received death threats and being in the workplace became a source of extreme anxiety for her. She reported every incident to her supervisor, but was told to “buck up” and “get back out there”.

One co-worker repeatedly showed fellow workers a video of he taped of himself date raping an unconscious woman. The men frequently groped and molested their female co-workers. Becca began panicking before every shift anticipating what might happen next.

No longer feeling safe at work, but needing to support her children, she continued. After a year of this, she finally broke down and became severely depressed and suicidal. In Sep 2017 she could no longer stand working in that environment.

She attempted to apply for disability, and   the Worker’s Comp doctor refused to sign any paperwork for time off stating he did not treat “stress injuries”.
All attempts to receive assistance from her supervisors have been futile.
She has found a Worker’s Comp attorney to represent her, and has an appointment with the doctor they have provided on Jan 29th. But, in the meantime, they have provided no financial solutions for her.

She needs to return to work, would accept a transfer to another station, but her boss will not return her calls. He also refuses to terminate her employment.

Becca, her children, and her mother, no longer feel safe in the town they have served for over 8 years. She has completely run out of money, and has been selling her possessions to survive.
Becca needs help relocating where she can find work again in the medical field.

She is applying to medical facilities looking for EMT’s and/or receptionists in the Bay area and is open to work options in Northern California.
We are raising $10,000 to get this family through until Becca finds work, and to move them from this toxic environment.
