Becca’s Kidney
Donation protected
In January 2007 my big sister ran away to the beaches of North Carolina where noone could find her or feel her pain. She had just lost her son on the Fourth of July 2006... Independence Day. She worked hard to pull herself through the pain of her loss. In a way, I believe she found her outlet in running. She began running 5ks and then half marathons.
In 2008 she called me and said “Something is wrong”. After some tests, the dr confirmed a few kidney stones were the cause of the pain and would simply have to pass on their own. She was convinced that the preworkout drinks she took prior to running caused the stones and stopped drinking them.
Unfortunately, the Kidney stones never stopped - apparently her body
produces them naturally. There was little that could be done.
Fast forward to 2014, Becca was finally back home with our family. She fell in love and was expecting her baby girl. After rushing into the world 10.5 weeks premature, Bec had to stop running and focus on baby Ava... all the while the pain in her left side continued.
On New Years Eve 2016, our entire family loaded up and headed to the beach to celebrate! However, that day, Bec started to get severe pain in her left side... when her husband found her, she was curled up on their spare bedroom floor, she had passed out from the pain. After being rushed to the hospital it was discovered that she had a 7mm kidney stone that was stuck in her left uterer. She had emergency surgery on New Years Day 2017 to remove the stone and repair the uterer. Since then, she’s been hospitalized 3 more times for kidney pain. It was explained to us that she has hydronephrosis which means her left kidney is swollen and filled with waste that can not empty.
Most recently, Becca was hospitalized... not with stones, but due to the pain caused by the hydronephrosis. During that stay, the attending referred her to a Dr at The Helen Graham Center in Newark, DE.
Full of courage and determined to find answers, Bec made the first available appointment with her new Doc. He ran a number of tests and confirmed that her left kidney is no long functioning (and likely hasn’t been for quite some time). Her kidney has no life or chance of recovery... it’s compeltely dead and unable to empty its contents.
Long story longer, my big sister, Becca, will be undergoing a 3 hour surgery in a few weeks to have her left kidney completely removed. She will be out of work for 4-6 weeks after surgery while recovering.
I want to raise money to help her with her recovery (her first week home she will go unpaid). All donations will go directly to her family to help with their day-to-day needs while she is home recovering. Any amount is greatly appreciated and welcomed!! Thanks all-
