Help Becca pay for cancer treatment and prevention

Donation protected
Becca is an RN who has worked at a hospital and a nursing home for over 7 years. If you’re lucky enough to know her, you know her fiery spirit and her generous heart. She shows up for her friends and we are asking for our community to show up for her as she continues her cancer battle.

She was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer in August 2023. She had a double mastectomy in September and was lucky to have caught it early enough that she didn’t need chemotherapy or radiation. Unfortunately, she lost her insurance in December and has had to pay privately for her ongoing treatment, which includes monthly hormone therapy injections to prevent reoccurrence. These shots cannot be self-administered and she will need them for five to ten years to induce menopause and keep the hormone fed cancer in remission. They cost over $800 per month before the deductible is met and around $400 after that. This is on top of paying for a private insurance plan which is $546 a month.

She is having reconstructive surgery on January 22, 2024 and will be unable to work for six more weeks. Light duty is not available to her, and she won’t be able to keep with the movement restrictions while working her regular nursing shifts, so she will not have any income. We set our goal to cover her estimated costs for the year with private insurance — around $14,100, assuming she reaches the $7,550 out-of-pocket max with the level of care she needs.

We all know our healthcare system is broken. In a perfect world, cancer patients wouldn’t need to ask their community to crowdfund their treatment. Becca initially didn’t want to ask for help, but a few of her friends convinced her to move forward with this Go Fund Me. She is determined to work hard once she is recovered to find a job with health benefits.

Money from this fundraiser will help offset the steep costs of care coming at a time when she is unable to work or receive short-term disability. Small donations add up and anything you can give will help this beautiful soul on her healing journey as she kicks cancer’s ass and can get back to her passion for helping others. If you aren’t in a place to donate at this time, please share with your network and send some encouragement to our girl as she tries to keep her spirits up through it all.
