Almost Free-- Divorce Funding
Friends, as many of you know, in July I made the decision to leave my husband. At the beginning of the year, I discovered he had been having multiple affairs, including employing escort services, for nearly our entire four and a half year relationship. This, in addition to his constant emotional abuse and financial tyranny, was truly the last straw. Thanks to my wonderful support system, I am now living on my own, and the dogs and I are safe and recovering a little more every day.
I have a simple request: I have lined up a divorce attorney who requires a $1500 retainer. $600 will be enough for her to start the case and file the initial petition and discovery. Moving costs and emergency room co-pays after my bike accident in July have left me on a razor thin budget, so I need help. I am asking for help raising the $1500 for legal costs, which my attorney believes will cover all the hours of her time required to push through the divorce and settlement quickly and cleanly. If I am lucky enough to raise more than $1500, I will put that toward any additional hours required by my attorney or the debts I incurred while moving and toward replacing household goods I was not permitted to take with me.
It's been a long and miserable experience, but I'm so close to being free and moving on with the rest of my life surrounded by the best friends I could ask for. Thank you all for the help you've already given, and anything you can contribute to this particular effort. Onward and upward we go!
