At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, our friend John Davis sought medical attention for some worrisome symptoms. After a detailed evaluation, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a condition that occurs when the body produces too many abnormal lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell.
Battling a cancer diagnosis during a global pandemic has not been easy, but John and Rebekah are strong and met this cancer challenge with tenacity and hope. Cancer picked the wrong person to mess with!
For those who don’t know John well, he was raised in Philadelphia and attended Penn Charter, followed by St. Mary's College and Temple Law School. Upon meeting Rebekah at The Trust, almost 20 years of laughter, teasing, bunny parenting, and adventuring ensued. In 2012, the decision was made to relocate to Rebekah's home state of Texas, settling in South Padre Island. With the exception of Spring Break, this ideal location gave them the chance to lean into the routine outdoor beach living provided.
This GoFundMe is a call to the community and all friends of John and Rebekah.
Over the past couple months, John learned that the first round of therapy did not eradicate the cancer. He is undergoing an intense secondary round involving more chemo and eventually stem cell treatment. He is receiving the best possible care at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Everything is going according to plan and he is moving through the phases with positive results.
The treatment John receives comes at a high cost emotionally and financially. John must live near his doctors in Houston, and he is unable to keep up his law practice. Long leaves of absence at work have been a strain.
John is in for a long journey…physically, emotionally, and financially. We know he's up for it, but we are asking for all the help we can get him. If you can donate to the GoFundMe, thank you. If you can send good thoughts, thank you. Anything and everything is very much appreciated! Share a positive comment and please share this link with others in the Philadelphia, Onas, Texas, AHP Settlement Trust, St.Mary's, Drexel and the many other John Russell Davis communities.
