We at Bec CC have been the organisers of a cycling time trial (hill climb) event for the benefit of the cycling community to compete in and to enjoy spectating since 1956.

The event has grown over the years to be amongst the top of its kind on the British TT calendar, and Bec CC are very proud of its achievements so far, especially from a small club such as ourselves.

For the earlier years of the race’s development, it had relied on entry fees, income from donations (some for tea & cake at the event), and some from sponsorship, with the club funds underwriting any shortfalls in leaner years.

Unfortunately, since 2015 we have had to pay for the closure of the road we hold the race on (White Lane) due to safety reasons it's too risky to run without it. In the many years previous the road closure was organised through Tandridge District Council using the Police & Town Centre Clauses Act 1847, but this was superseded by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (Section 16A) as enforced by Surrey County Council and therefore comes with a hefty price tag!

Bottom line in this change of policy, is that the Bec CC Hill Climb is now in danger again of being priced out of existence.

We raised funds from a similar crowd funding call in 2015, and this has helped keep the event going until 2025, but unfortunately our coffers have once again run dry.

Certainly for this year at least, any financial help would go a long way to keeping this historic event on the calendar.
