BEAVERTON ONTARIO CURLING CLUB

Donation protected
The Beaverton Curling Club has prospered for 136 years and with the help of our members and friends in the community we will survive the COVID pandemic of 2020-2021. We wish we were not in this position, but as we turn the corner into 2021 …
WE ARE NOW ASKING FOR YOUR FINANCIAL HELP.

We have set up this gofundme page seeking $10,000 in support to pay our bills.  THANK-YOU for visiting and your consideration. Here is our story;

After we closed our season early in March of 2020, and then later made the difficult decision to not open for the 2020-2021 season, we managed to cover our operating costs for the balance of the year through several means. We were awarded a grant that we applied for from The Township of Brock and received the Beaverton Lions Club annual donation. We liquidated our bar inventory and have taken all measures to reduce operating costs during this closure. Your Board reluctantly approved ‘borrowing cash’ from our Capital Fund account, which due to our several capital expenses over the last few years, is now nearing depletion. We don’t have the funds in this account to carry us.

SO HERE WE ARE. Now in the midst of the COVID pandemic, in lockdown with a growing second wave, things definitely remain uncertain for the balance of 2021. Sadly, we are not in a position to safely hold our annual fundraising events and cannot predict when we will be able to meet in our facility again. Even though we are closed we still need funds to cover our bills up until the beginning of next season. So while we have some new fundraising plans for the spring when we trust restrictions will be lessened, we know those initiative will not raise enough to cover our costs and have decided to set up this online “gofundme” campaign as a simple and easy way to seek your support.

IF you are part of the BCC ‘COVID YEAR’ broadened email distribution list you would have read more detail about our ‘normal season’ revenue and expenses. The reality is the bills that still need to be paid while we are closed include; Heat (Enbridge Gas), Hydro (Veridian) , Water/Sewer, Security Monitoring (Hy-Tec), Internet (for Security), Insurance and some small general maintenance and administrative costs. For this 2021 Jan - Oct we are estimating these costs (given we have never closed the club during the curling season before) to be in the area of $12,000, approximately one-third of the normal costs to maintain our ice and facility at the right temperatures. We expect that we will be raising at least $2,000 during our Spring fundraiser and so have targeted $10,000 to raise from this “gofundme”. Note our costs may run under OR they may run over our estimate. This $10,000 target does not include replacement of the ‘borrowed funds’ from our dwindling capital account fund. In the event the generosity of the community means we raise more than this target, and we have covered all of our operating costs, any excess will be returned to our depleted Capital Fund Account.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.  We are asking our members and community friends for any financial aid that you can provide. We know that many have had a challenging year and that you may not be in a position to give. We also know that in these difficult times there are many worthy causes also seeking your hard earned dollars. No amount is too small.

We know from our survey in September that many of our members were willing to donate their membership dues or a portion thereof.  We also ask you to consider what you may normally spend weekly throughout the October  - March season on weekly refreshments and additional Bonspiels. The BCC almost earned as much income from the bar as we did from our membership fees! We lastly ask you to consider how the Curling Club positively impacts your mental health during the winter season and for our many long time members - what it has meant to your life.  Where would we all be without the BCC.

Your Board of Directors and the Fundraising Committee sincerely THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

With the approval of two vaccines to date and vaccinations in progress we remain optimistic that the BCC WILL be opening this fall for our 2021-22 (137th!) season.

IF you do not wish to donate here online we will of course accept cheques or direct e-transfers. Contact the organizer of this page and we will make arrangements with you to pick up any donation in person or give you e-transfer instructions.
