Bree's Omuto Uganda Mission Trip

My name is Bree and I am a freshman at Point Loma Nazarene University studying Managerial and Organizational Communication with a minor in sustainability studies. I have three passions: loving God, loving people, and photography. God has instilled in me these passions, and I believe that God wants to use my talents for the benefit of his Kingdom (Matthew 25:14-30). I especially love children; I love seeing their innocent hearts turning towards Heaven. I believe they are the hope of the world and we have so much to learn from them. In addition, I currently run a small photography business (breehulan.smugmug.com) and I love expressing the beauty of God’s creation through my art.

The beautiful nation of Uganda, Africa has been on my heart since I was eleven years old. Uganda is a poverty, disease, and war-stricken country. Only 1 in 5 children survive past their fifth birthday, and most children don’t get an education. When I was eleven, a group of children from Uganda visited my church and sang for our congregation. Their stories moved my heart and I can honestly say that it has been my dream ever since to work in Uganda. I have two sponsor sisters in Uganda that I love very much and write back and forth to every few months. This past year, God spoke to my heart (clear as day) that he would take me to Africa. Now, I believe my calling is being fulfilled!

Geoff Horn, my youth pastor, and his dad, Bill Horn, have partnered with Moses Muwanguzi, Founder and President of Omuto Uganda, on a ten-day mission trip to Moses’ home country. In the last year, God has enabled a couple acres of undeveloped jungle to be transformed into the Emmaus School in the Kizigo village outside Jinja for over 350 kids aged preschool to 6th grade. A well was also recently finished, which provided fresh water for the school and the village to drink. This year in June-July, we will be honored with the opening of the new school! This upcoming trip would be a continuation of the work God has done through Omuto Uganda! We would be delivering supplies to the school, continuing to foster further relationships with the kids, and sharing the love of Christ to even more people. I was invited on this trip because of my skills as a photojournalist. I will be responsible with digitally capturing God’s work in Uganda. Of course, this is our plan, but we are anticipating even more incredible wonders by God while we are there. If you would like to check out the work that was done on last year’s trip, please visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWm4bnZHWAs

My heart is overwhelmed with joy at the invitation to join the movement in this neglected country. I truly believe this will be a profound experience for me, and I want more than anything to be able to use my God-given talents to better his Kingdom. As you can imagine, I need to raise the financial support necessary to cover the cost of my trip. Would you be willing to partner with me to help me accomplish my goal of working in Uganda? I need to raise $1,400 by May 25th and another $2,000 by June 30th (total of $3,400).  If you would like to support me, please send checks payable to “Community of Faith” to 13068 Wanesta Dr Poway, CA 92064. All donations are tax-deductible.

I want to stress that even more than financial support, our group needs prayer. Prayer is the fuel to what we are hoping to accomplish on this trip.

Thank you for your support and prayer. I will keep you updated on my trip and what God is doing in Uganda!
