Beautiful family displaced by electrical fire

This page is for our neighbors who we share a side-by-side duplex.

On December 4th, 2023, Paul & Mandy were lying in bed when they heard a loud popping noise. They got up to find the apartment enulfed in smoke. Upon further investigation, they noticed fire coming from an electrical outlet. They ran to grab a fire extinguisher and thought they had put the fire out. Less than a minute later another pop was heard, now sparks and flames were coming out of the outlet. Paul touched the wall with his hand, and he could feel heat from inside the wall and knew it was time to call 911. The fire department was able to get the fire under control and there were no injuries. There is extensive damage from smoke, soot and water. Luckily, their 5-year-old daughter, Kaylee was in school at the time.

Between the extensive damage and investigations, they were not allowed to take things out of the apartment. They left with the clothes on their back. With the holidays getting close, our heart is breaking for them because they don’t know what they’re going to do or where they will be living. They’re staying in a Red Cross hotel at the moment, and many different expenses will add up quick. All of their personal belongings are covered in smoke, soot and will need to be professionally cleaned or thrown out. The chemical smell in their home is so bad you can’t even walk in there without feeling lightheaded. There is months of extensive work that needs to be done in this home before it’s livable again.

Mandy & Paul are the kindest and most humble people we know. They’re hardworking small business owners of a local mechanic shop, P&M Autocare in Surfside, SC. We know of so many times they’ve helped other people who were down and out and now it’s time for them to receive much needed help and support from their community.

I know asking for help, especially around the holidays, is difficult, but know that every little bit can help. Please give what you can so this family can sleep a little easier at night. And feel free to reach out if there are other ways you’d like to help.

Please share this to spread the word and help this family. <3

We will be updating you as we learn more information.
