I will be taking on the challenge of doing 200km in the month of November to raise money for the Beaumont Hospital Foundation, which as directly benefitted my brother Aaron.

Patients in the high dependency neurosurgical areas in Beaumont Hospital - namely Richmond and Adams McConnell Wards - require intensive nursing care as part of their recovery plan. Each year, there is a throughput of over 1000 patients from all over the country on these wards and the presence of monitors (for pulse oximetry, blood pressure, respiratory rate, ECG tracing) at each bed space (19 in total) would be a significant aid to nursing staff and greatly improve the care we can provide to patients.

My brother, Aaron, has been a patient in both the Richmond and Adam McConnell Wards, undergoing 3 brain tumour removal surgeries in the past 8 years. Aaron’s first surgery was in 2013, followed by 2017 and September 2020. Aaron had an epileptic fit in 2013, which resulted in scans and tests, where they discovered a benign tumour. Since 2013, Aaron has been in and out of hospital for scans, tests, meetings and surgeries. The care he received in Beaumont has been exceptional, thanks to all the staff, equipment and the friends he made while staying in hospital. Aaron always speaks so highly of everyone at Beaumont so I’m happy to be able to give back to everyone who got him back on his feet and ultimately saved his life.

The funds raised here will go towards monitors, including five intracranial pressure monitors, which will significantly improve the care the medical staff at Beaumont can provide to their patients. Myself and my family would greatly appreciate any donations towards this life changing charity.
