Beaube’s Surgery

Beau has had many trials and bumps in his life. He is a 12-year-old boy with multiple disabilities such as cerebral palsy, spastic quadriplegia, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, scoliosis, frequent seizures, and cortical vision impairment; just to name a few. Beau relies on me, his mother, to help him with his everyday needs. Despite him having various medical problems, Beau is a very happy child. He enjoys being around friends and family. He also enjoys pranking his therapists into thinking he is asleep so he can get out of therapy.

Beau is currently scheduled to have his sixth surgery on February 11, 2020; which will attempt to correct the severe curvature (scoliosis) of his spine. His spine has slowly contorted to the point where his doctors deem it almost inoperable. During this operation, the doctors will be fusing two titanium rods on either side of Beau’s spine to help make his spine straighter. The doctors estimate they can only correct 50% of what the degree is at.  His spine is currently curved at 56%. He will be in the hospital for about 14 days for recovery from the surgery, and once released he will require several additional months for a complete recovery. Because Beau is a special needs child, he sometimes requires more time for the recovery process than other children require.

As Beau's sole provider and mother, I also suffer from a number of disabilities which were caused by a near-fatal car accident that occurred while I was still pregnant with him. Unfortunately his father did not survive the crash. Immediately after the wreck I underwent an emergency c-section, which blessed me with my baby Beau; but also left us both with many challenges to overcome throughout our lives. Such challenges, in addition to Beau's 24/7 required care, have prevented me from being able to seek gainful employment.

I am asking for monetary donations to help with the expenses of Beau’s surgery. The hospital where his surgery will take place is located several hours away from my home. The donations would go towards travel expenses, including helping us to get to his pre-op and post-op appointments. It would also go towards my meals during the the 14-day stay in the hospital post-surgery.

We greatly appreciate any help you are able to provide and thank you so much for your donations. This is a stressful time for us, especially Beau; and we are simply praying that all goes well for him during the surgery, and also afterwards with his recovery.

God bless,
Melissa (Beau's mom)
