Help Beau Riedel Fight Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Donation protected
Beau was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on February 16, 2022.
Beau is 12 years old and has always been a very healthy kid. He has never been hospitalized for illness or broken any bones, he rarely catches a cold.
He had began feeling sick around Christmas, and had a hard time kicking it.
He seemed almost back to normal for a few weeks when his fever came back. His mother, Jes, took him to the walk in clinic. After running a few tests they decided to give him a small round of steroids to see how his body would react. By the third day, nothing had improved and he was now complaining of stomach pain so Jes decided to take him to the ER. After a very long night and an ambulance ride to the children’s hospital up north, they found out that they suspected lymphoma but needed to run more tests to make a diagnosis. A couple of days later, after surgery, they determined it was stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and placed a port for treatment.
Beau is very outgoing and a quick witted kid. He’s incredibly articulate and loves trying new things and being challenged. He always has a positive outlook on life, especially when it comes to hard things like receiving this diagnosis. He said “it sucks and I could waste time being upset but that won’t change anything. I’m better off accepting it and fighting it.”
Beau is currently in his second cycle of treatment.
He is in a clinical treatment that uses lower doses of chemo along with an immunotherapy drug.
The treatment is 6, one month cycles. Followed by 3-4 weeks of radiation. Each month, he receives two treatments of chemo in an outpatient setting, in Portland, OR. Which they have to commute 2-4 hours to. Followed by five days of shots at home to boost his white blood cells.
He occasionally has PET scans and blood tests that will require them to stay in Portland over night.
After the 6 cycles of chemo he will start radiation. We don’t know yet if that will be in Portland or somewhere closer but it will be a mon-fri treatment for up to 4 weeks.
Beau is raised by his single mother, Jes, who is also 7 months pregnant with her 2nd child. They are deeply supported by their family but could use some extra support during this time as they navigate this battle together.
