Update 3/5/2020: Beau will be discharged from UC Davis today. His creatine levels are low enough (but still high) to allow him to go home and continue healing. There is nothing more they can do to expedite the process - only time will tell. He’ll be monitored back in his home state of Colorado.
Thank you all for all the good wishes and support! We are incredibly grateful. Go Beau - you got this!

Update 3/1/2020: Beau was admitted to the ICU on February 10 so it's been 20 days since he has been admitted first in Colorado, now at UC Davis Veterinarian Hospital in California. They are working on getting his creatine levels down. In the past week his creatine levels have dropped from 4.1 to 2.9 - ideally he has to get in the range of 1.5 - 2.5 before discharge. The doctors are optimistic. Dogs can continue to recover between 30-90 days to normal values but they want to see the numbers as low as possible before discharge to be safe. The liver and kidney biopsies were clean, showing healthy cells. However, if his levels remain high longer than 90 days, it does not bode well for long term health. SO, the good news - he is responding - numbers are NOT going up. And he just started eating a little bit on his own in the past few days. Yay!
Brian takes Beau for a walk each morning and evening to visit the cows as you can see in the new photo.
Thank you all for your continued support, concern, and donations. His out of pocket costs have reached $20K+. Any donations to reach our initial goal of $6000 would be greatly appreciated at this time to help Beau. Thank you ALL again. It is truly appreciated. Go Beau!!!

Update 2/25/2020: Beau is now at the ICU at UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital. When Beau arrived he was severely overhydrated and likely would require dialysis to remove the excess fluids accumulating in his abdomen. However — over the course of the last 24hrs his condition has improved marginally — allowing more time for observation before moving forward. He will undergo another ultrasound today and surgery later this afternoon to place a feeding tube in his esophagus. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers — he still has a long battle ahead of him.
Update 2/21/2020: Brian will be driving Beau to UC Davis, California for dialysis today. Without it, his chances are nil. Hopefully, this will give his kidneys a better chance to heal and give him more strength to fight off whatever got him to this stage. Thank you all for your support and donations.
Update 2/18/2020: Beau is now at Colorado State University Veterinary Hospital undergoing treatment in the Internal Medicine/Critical Care Unit.

Hello all. I am creating this GoFundMe campaign to assist my son, Brian DeDonato, with some major expenses accruing for his dog, Beau, his 2 year old Black Lab, his Colorado running, hiking and skiing buddy, the best companion ever.
Beau has been at the vet in ICU since Monday, February 10, 2020. He has a kidney infection, source to be determined. The vet bill to date is $12.3K. It’s serious.
Any amount to help offset Beau’s costly treatment would be ever so appreciated.
We are rooting for you Beau & Brian! Get well soon, Beau. Hang in there, Brian! Love you.

A message from Brian:
Huge thanks to anyone who has shared or donated I can’t begin to tell you how awesome it was to see so many people reach out when I first found out the severity of Beau’s condition. But here’s some additional context:
My guy Beau, an otherwise perfectly healthy 2-year old dog, just suddenly entered into acute kidney failure after a weekend out in the mountains. We still don’t know the cause (toxin, viral, cogenital disease, etc) and are still waiting on a handful of tests.
The good news is his condition isn’t worsening right now. But the longer his creatinine levels stay elevated, the more likely it will have severe long term implications (the 90-day survival rate is something like 70% ).
It’s pretty evident from my social media activity how much this dog means to me, and there is no doubt in my mind that I would spend every last cent I had to give him the opportunity to recover. But the reality is intensive care is incredibly expensive (~2k/day) and at some point I’ll run out of money. I hope you’ll share or donate anything you can. Much love, Brian.
