My name is Sheila Emry, My campaign is for my long time boyfriend and friend Doug Lefler; he is suffering from Biotoxin Disease.
This is caused by black mold. - Doug was exposed to black mold living with and taking care of his dad who had a severe stroke some years back - his dad is now a paraplegic. The stroke completely killed the left side of his brain - so for anyone that knows about strokes, they will know that he is a completely different person, and in the nicest way possible; not the easiest person to be around for extended periods of time, much less to be taking care of. Doug is his caretaker and does virtually everything for him. Doug was goin to school at Long Beach State, throwing Javelin & actually moved back to montana to take care of his dad. I wish that I could even begin to explain the stresses and difficulties that taking care of a parent cause alone, on top of the fact that he is no longer the same man. It has been extremely time consuming and very emotionally exhausting (to put in lighter terms)
Doug has always had great health. He has been an athlete his entire life, he has thrown for the Mens USA Track team as well in college, he is a personal trainer here in Missoula (mainly for kids- for their sports highschool and middle school athletes..) Outside of surgeries due to sports injury, he has never had any health probelms really. However in just the last 2 years, he went from going to the doctor for a physical exam to going almost twice a month for asthma, prostate issues, digestive problems, inflammation in his stomach, bowels (virtually everywhere) He was losing his memory, and severly depressed. Just to name a few of the issues . Every one that he went to see told him the same thing (it is stress, you have to get away from you dad etc.) They put him on anitibiotics over and over, gave him a series of inhalers, steroid shots, etc. Basically tried to treat him without ever asking WHY! why are you sick? I noticed he was always tired, he would just hit a wall and there was nothing he could do to stay awake, move, anything. His motivation and enjoyment for life and care about anything (job, family, friends etc.) started to disappear. His doctor suggested that he move away from everything for a little while to see if that helped - so for 3-4 months he moved to spokane to get away from it all. While he was there, his symptoms remained that same and some got worse. I stayed living with his dad to help take care of him - after a couple months, the condo where we were living sold. So doug moved back to missoula to help with that and try to find somewhere for his dad to go that would be able to fit his needs. His dad's wheelchair had torn the walls and the trim apart so they had to replace them. When they peeled the trim off the entire unit was COVERED in mold. laundry room, behind all cabinets, literally everywhere. (prior to knowing there was mold in the unit we had thought it was something in the house. we tried everything, new bedding, got our vents cleaned, carpets cleaned, you name it we did it.)
even after finding the mold it took months and months for us to find a doctor that even knew the slightest thing about (what we didnt know at the time was called biotoxin disease) he had sinus surgery to remove polyps that were blocking off his entire sinus. He could not breathe from his nose at all. he had constant drippage and drainage, that woke him up several times a night and actually caused him to vomit. Several nights he seemed to stop breathing. that was around Feb. 2014 , Today, it is like he never had the surgery at all - due to the biotoxin disease.
Finally he found a doctor in Bozeman MT and was diagnosed. The only real remedy is time, diet, natural supplements. (in short Doug's blood type cannot fight off the bacteria, - it kills your immune system and any chance that your body has of fighting anything, and along with being on steroid shots and antibiotics for almost 2 years, which also kill your immune system and such, his body has no chance of fighting anything off and getting anything out of his system. ) It is body inflammation (head to toe) his brain is swollen which affects memory, causes depression, the ability to reason .. literally it is like it has completely changed the man that I met into someone that I have no idea who he is anymore. ) There is no enjoyment in life.. nothing sounds good. nothing is exciting. I cannot even do it justice in anyway.. there arent the right words to describe it.. It is so so heartbreaking to see someone who is the most loving, selfless, kind hearted person go from one extreme to the next, and be on a tormenting roller coaster ride. To be in so much physical and emotional pain.. Doug has literally given his whole life to help everyone else but himself.. he gives his all in everything he does.. He will do anything to take care anyone . No matter what sacrifice he must make He has helped me beyond anything I have ever imagined- I have never looked up to anyone as much as him . He is the best most amazing person I have ever met .
He has now had to quit his job.. his body wont let him work. he can't do anything even normal every day activities like making the bed or vacuming the house will cause him to crash for 1-2 days .. he is suffering from physical and mental and emotional symptoms that I cannot even begin to explain
Treatment is not covered by insurance - and is very expensive.. as he has to get blood test everytime to test his levels and make sure there is progress.. along with cat scans to moniter the swelling in his brain.
He cannot work so there is a very small income coming in.
I am not asking for my goals to be met entirely .. or any.. really all I could ask is for you to keep us and Doug mainly in your prayers..
