Beat it with Bea— We’re still fighting!

As most of you know, my mamma, Beatrice Reyes-Enriquez, has been fighting breast cancer since she was diagnosed in September of 2017.  She has had a roller coaster of events through this battle.   The breast cancer had metastasized (spread to other parts of the body) in October of 2018.  She’s had numerous rounds and several types of chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, surgery.

She has been traveling to the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Goodyear, Arizona since 2017, where she has had wonderful care and treatment.

She’s had good news through her battle, and not so good news.  She’s been through chemo that has shrunk the tumors, but had blistered her lips and peeled the skin from her palms of her hands and bottoms of her feet.  She’s had chemo that has made her feel good for the first 3 days after infusion, then affected her joints to where she would need physical assistance to even step out of bed.

She had surgery to remove the breast tissue of the affected area, but then had an infection to the breast/chest area.

At one point, she was cancer-free for 5 months... then it came back to the lymph nodes in her abdomen.  He body was responding well to the chemo and was shrinking the tumors in her abdomen.

Within the past 8 months, she as been suffering from lymphedema to the right arm.  This is due to the removal of lymph nodes to the right side of her chest, and underneath her armpit.    The lymphatic system of our bodies ‘sewerage system’ and maintains fluid levels in our body tissues by removing all fluids that leak out of our blood vessels.  With her ‘sewerage system’ being damaged from surgery, the drainage and flow is backed up, causing edema (swelling).  This swelling causes much pain and limits her usage of her right arm.

Within the past 4 months, the cancer has spread dramatically to her right chest, and right arm, causing the cancer to come out of the skin.  This is now an open wound, vulnerable to infection.  She’s getting wound care everyday to keep the area clean from puss and blood.

We recently visited the Cancer Treatment Center of America again to see what can be done about the recent spread of her cancer....

The doctors told her that it is continuing to spread and she has two options:

- She can either go home, and get on ‘comfort measures’ and surrender to the cancer.

OR

-Give it one more shot, and get on another low dose chemo in conjunction with her immunotherapy— in hopes of stopping the spread..

SHE CHOSE TO FIGHT and NOT SURRENDER.

She will be traveling to CTCA two weeks in a row for treatment. (Two days a week, Two days the next week— Then a week off).

This fundraiser is for me to be able to travel with her to each and every appointment from here on out for help and support.  I will be the extra set of ears at her appointments, and her extra set of hands due to her not being able to use her dominant right arm.

As we know, travel is difficult and not cheap and the frequent flights and expenses will definitely add up—

We will continue traveling until we beat this CANCER— We fly out next week beginning Monday and Tuesday 5/24-25— and from weeks beyond that....

Your contribution would greatly be appreciated!! Let us BEAT IT WITH BEA!!
