Anyone that knows the name Susan McDonough knows behind that woman is great courage, an amazing character, selflessness and a wholehearted soul passionate about helping others achieve their goals.
On September 9th 2018 Susan went to the doctor for a basic yearly physical. However not in a million years did she or her family expect to hear that Susan had a large brain tumor connected to her insular cortex. She was a standout athlete competing professionally in track and field. Tests would later confirm that the entire tumor couldn’t come out and she would be battling this for the rest of her life.
October 3, 2018 She had her surgery with the number one Neuro specialist in the world taking out 90% of the tumor. This half million dollar surgery put Susan and her family in debt for life. A smaller second tumor was found during recovery and has not been an issue so far.
This benign tumor could stay small post-surgery or grow at any time. On September 4th, 2020 Susan got the phone call she was hoping to never get. The tumor is growing towards the center of her brain and surgery 2 needs to happen. With the tumor now growing towards the center of her brain, this is the last surgery possible for this area and clinical trial will begin immediately after if qualified to stall any more tumor growth.
She and her family live in Iowa and the surgeon they trust with their lives is in California. This is an amazing family who are part of our community and they need us more now than ever before. Susan is one of the most positive, driven, positive vibe, determined individuals you will ever meet.
We are asking for any help as this family endures every parent’s worst nightmare, and all the associated medical cost that will incur with travel, hospital stay, dietician help and life-saving medications and treatments. With COVID-19 running rampant it complicates it on all levels with her husband and two children – 5 years and 4 months old.
