On 2/5/24 I took Bear to the vet because I found a weird lump on his inner lip. The vet didn’t think it was anything serious but after they removed it and sent it out - it came back as a malignant oral melanoma.
On 2/23/24 I went to an oncologist for a consult and they did chest X-rays, examined his blood and results came back that it HAS NOT spread and is isolated to his lip.
Next steps are for him to have a surgery on his lip to remove any and all cancerous cells on his lip which will cost between 4k-6k. Following this he will be given a melanoma vaccine which is four shots total every two weeks and the. Once every 6 months. Each of these shots will be $1000. These will help prevent the cancer from coming back.
Bear is 9 years old and has been the most important thing in my life. I’ve had Bear since he was 6 weeks old. We have lived in Chattanooga, Boston, New York and now Boulder. He’s gone on many trips and has gone to work with me everyday and has met so many people! If you know me then there’s no way you haven’t met Bear! He has several more years to live and these treatments will help him significantly!
