Being born with a heart condition never stopped Adam from living life to the fullest. He was an active kid who enjoyed skateboarding, soccer and baseball. His love for outdoors grew as he did, and he now enjoys snowboarding, snorkeling and off roading in his Jeep. Adam has been happily married for over five years to his wife Megan and loves his job as Deputy Fire Marshal at Heartland Fire & Rescue. Life was picture perfect; the couple even bought their first home to start a family.

2014 was full of big changes for Adam and his wife, but nothing could prepare them for what 2015 holds. Adam's doctor discovered pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in his lungs) in September. After multiple doctor visits, and months of treatment, it was decided that Adam's heart had weakened significantly and he was in need of a heart transplant. Adam and his wife received this life changing news just a couple of weeks before Christmas. They made it through the Holidays and enjoyed every minute they had with one another until Adam was admitted to the hospital on Jan. 6th. Adam is "living" at UCLA Ronald Reagan as he waits for a heart while his wife continues to work in San Diego and visits him in Los Angeles on weekends.

Life as Adam and Megan know it has been put on hold, and currently revolves around keeping Adam positive and healthy as he waits for a heart to become available. They have an amazing support system full of family and friends, but they also have a long road ahead of them. They could use some help as they take on these unexpected expenses. Adam’s parents, sister, and wife all drive to LA different days of the week to ensure that he has someone with him at all times as they wait for the phone call that they have a heart for him. Recovery is expected to be two weeks in the hospital and three months in LA post surgery. During this whole process, Adam’s family has added expenses of rent for an apartment close to the hospital, gas, groceries, eating out and standard life necessities. Basically, they are all living a double life with double the cost of living.

Adam and his wife Megan look forward to the day when Adam comes home strong and healthy. They are grateful for any and all support they receive as they endure this challenging time. Although their life path has been altered, they have a positive outlook and know that it's only a matter of time until they can pick up where they left off.
