Breanna's PhD Tuition Fund

Hi, my name is Breanna and I am raising funds for my tuition for the last year of my Ph.D. program. For the past 7 years, I have been working toward my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Howard University and have dedicated my academic, research and clinical career to improving the quality of life of African Americans suffering with chronic illnesses, people who have been historically underserved and marginalized within the healthcare system. I recently completed the last step of my clinical training with an internship at Duke University Medical Center, where I conducted psychological assessments and provided individual, couples and group psychotherapy to patients and their loved ones.

Currently, I find myself in a bind. I cannot move on to defend my dissertation because I have run out of financial resources to pay for my enrollment. If you know anything about the field of psychology, we are not paid or paid very little during our graduate training. Coupled with this reality, I have faced personal challenges that have caused significant financial distress and disruption to my academic progress. Despite these challenges, I am very resilient and resourceful and have already overcome financial barriers to proceeding in my program with the support of my family and phenomenal mentors and faculty at Howard, but I still have one more semester to complete my degree. Upon graduation, I will continue my training at Duke University with a postdoctoral fellowship that will allow me to offer clinical services and develop a training program that will diversify the next generation of psychologists.
