Beard shaving for theatre return
When UK theatres closed on 16 March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic I said I would not shave again until they reopened, little knowing that it would be more than a year. In that year, despite emergency help from Arts Council England and the UK Government, theatres have come to the brink of collapse and thousands of individual theatre workers have been left with no work and no income. Now, with hope on the horizon, I've decided to seek sponsorship to lose the beard and help theatre get back on its feet.
Blackpool Grand Theatre is a beautiful 126 year old Grade2* listed building designed by Frank Matcham that, alongside presenting world class entertainment, plays a vital role in the region, working with schools and community groups to develop creativity and life skills, raising aspiration and supporting new talent.
Please help by giving what you can. More details will follow about how the beard will come off when the date is confirmed for theatres reopening without restrictions. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. I'm also raising funds for Acting for Others, which is providing support for the many thousands of freelance theatre workers who are partciularly suffering as a result of the pandemic. Same beard but two good causes
This picture was the last time I saw a performance in the theatre - in Rustavi Georgia on 14 March last year. Andbelow shows the effect of Covid!
