Bear Fire Devastation
Donation protected
Our hearts are heavy this morning. I found out last night that my parents, John and Vickie Whittier, lost their home in the Bear Fire. My Dad was able to get out with some important papers, their cat, and the clothes on his back. My Mom was in Chico babysitting for us and could not get back up the hill to grab anything. That fire moved through there so quickly. It's heartbreaking to watch the mountains we all grew up in go up in flames.
My Dad has always loved the outdoors and his dream was to live in the mountains. They bought the property at Lake Madrone years ago and were going to retire up there and build the house of their dreams. Their property was gorgeous, trees all around, quiet, serene. Bucks Lake was close so Dad could go fishing and enjoy nature. He had a detached garage to work on his projects and my Mom had her beautiful yard to work on. They had a gorgeous deck where they would sit and drink coffee in the morning and wine in the evenings. It was their little piece of Paradise. They had amazing neighbors who they would have dinner and parties with. Lake Madrone/Berry Creek was their favorite place in the world.
It's feeling very overwhelming knowing they lost everything. The memories start rolling in and your heart breaks a little. My parents are the most giving, loving, and selfless people, they would give you the shirt off their back. They are always willing to jump in and help and if you know my Dad, he'll help with home projects and yard projects in the blink of an eye. My Mom is full of love and the best listener and friend. They are amazing people and I'm so proud to be their daughter.
This morning they are amazingly positive and I can't stop crying. As their daughter, I feel like I need to rally the troops to help. I'm asking for donations to help them with basic necessities. They don't have a thing. They are staying at our house right now and I love it! We need to get them some clothes and shoes and start looking for a place for them to live. Please help if you can or just send a message of love and encouragement. My heart goes out to all the families going through this.
