Hi there, my name is George ‘Bear’ Jarrell. I am a husband, father of twin girls, and a lover of pizza. I have been in the restaurant business for nearly 30 years; 20 or so as an owner / operator of a Jerry’s Pizza and Subs in Montgomery County. I grew up here in MoCo and graduated from Montgomery Blair High School, the original one off of Sligo Ave I have always loved pizza and have had the dream of opening a brick oven pizza restaurant, leveraging my experience and connection to our community to bring good food to this part of the county. That dream took shape in October 2018, my wife, Sophia, and I wanted a ‘non-chain’ restaurant that served healthy, delicious food without a long drive to Bethesda or DC. A place with a family-friendly atmosphere, where we could comfortably bring our twin girls without loud music or TVs blaring or people yelling during a game (although I do love sports!). A place where the food was fresh and you knew you were more than just a number to some corporate entity far away. Imagine an English Pub but with warm brick oven pizza, salads, sandwiches (and beer or wine). The abandoned anchor of the Cloverly Village shopping plaza, a former Pizza Hut and then the Greek Isles Grill, had sat empty for two years across from the Safeway on New Hampshire Avenue in Cloverly. We decided to go for it. We developed a business plan and got the keys to our dream in April of 2019. Remodeling an empty restaurant to fit our vision and bringing it up to code took a lot of time, and sadly, most all of our life savings. Things were rolling along fine and then in January of last year, the pandemic hit. This slowed down or at times, shut down the permitting, inspection, and construction process. Despite this huge hurdle, the support from the community has been overwhelming. We are again asking for your help as we push for the final funding to make our dream and that of the residents of this part of Montgomery County a reality. We are not eligible for any government assistance related to the pandemic as we do not have a history of revenue. So no PPP or SBA help. The interior is 90% finsihed, our awning is up for all to see. The state-of-the-art pizza oven has been fired up and is ready to go to make you, your family,and friends some delicious pizza. That is why we again are asking you to please donate to our GoFundMe and share this with as many of your friends, family, and pizza lovers that you can. With your help, we will be able to do a soft opening next month with the goal of opening in mid-March.
