Bean had most of her teeth removed
UPDATE 08/28/2025:
BEAN HAS HAD HER BAD TEETH REMOVED!!
She got to keep her good teeth, granted we don't know which those are right now.
We are home and she is now recovering. She is for sure sore and exhausted.
I have updated the photos to what the procedure ended up being. We had assistance from Asheville Humane Society, Brother Wolf, and The Rico Fund! The rest we were able to pay using Sam's Care Credit but we are already financially struggling on one income and this added debt is a lot for us. Paying it off sooner would be an absolute blessing
I have been unable to financially contribute since late 2022 due to multiple chronic illnesses .
All original posts/updates are still below besides photos since I have updated them for after surgery.
UPDATE 08/05!:
BEANS TEETH REMOVAL IS SCHEDULE FOR AUGUST 28TH!!
*I have updated the description here since we have been to the vet**
*06/20 update below!*
*06/24 update at the bottom!*
Original post: Hello, my name is Olivia Reid.
My partner and myself are in need of assistance paying for our dog, Bean, to go to the vet for urgent dental work.
Bean is 11 years old and turns 12, October 18th!
Bean recently started randomly yelping and we struggled to figure out why until she refused a treat. It turned out many of her remaining teeth, especially in the back, are very bad and causing a lot of discomfort and irritation. We went to Open Door Veterinary Care June 19th at 4pm.
We paid $153 out of pocket(more like out of all that Sam had saved for his self employment taxes savings) for her exam, blood work and heartworm test(negative). Doing so today was cheaper than waiting till her surgery.
We don't have care credit available(update below), we couldn't get scratch pay, we don't have the credit for other credit based options, and other local assistance has told us they're unable to help or directed us back to where we already applied/reached out. Sam WAS able to get approved with Cherry pay but depending on the amount, theres an up front cost and the monthly payment could end up being something we just can't afford as we already struggle on one income.
Open Door Veterinary Care had originally estimated on average dental runs $1000-$1,500 or more depending on the case. We got the quote after her visit and it reads low end estimate as $1,608.18 and the high end estimate as $1,895.22. This ended up being more than originally estimated because of the severity of her teeth. We were quoted even higher than this at other places.
We absolutely do not have that but it's not fair for Bean to suffer. She's already dealt with a lot with her age. Based of her initial exam they also believe she has "Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome in Dogs". We were given a pamphlet about it, along with one on a medication they recommend may be helpful for Bean. We were told it would need to be ordered through Chewy and obviously require regular check ups to continue a prescription. We're unsure the cost through Chewy at this time.
I don't have any pictures of her teeth to post because I don't want to hurt her more than she is already hurting just for photos.
Our Household runs on Sam's income and is already struggling.
Sam has Cash app as well : $GrubalSnaaps
We don't know what else to do when the resources we're told aren't available to us for whatever reason.
We have a pre approval with Brother Wolf's Stay Together for up to $500 but they have to get in contact with the vet to be sure. We also have one with The Rico Fund for $200 but they also have to get in contact with the vet.
I've reached out to several others and have been denied because they don't cover dental or have not received a response yet.
Bean does not have a surgery date scheduled yet since they need to reach out now that we have the actual quote and awaiting responses from other resources.
If you're able to help, we greatly would appreciate it. Even sharing helps!
Thank you in advance❤️
We are so so greatful!!
*Within photos you will find pictures of the quote. Personal information is obviously hidden*(These have been removed and updated.)
Update as of June 20th:
Guys! I was able to get care credit to reconsider! Sam was able to get a new account with enough to cover the rest of Beans surgery cost after assistance with Brother Wolf and The Rico Fund!
We still will continue to ask for support, as this added monthly payment is going to greatly increase our struggles. If we can get the amount as low as possible before being on the care credit card it would help us tremendously!! Or even help paying it off in general.❤️ Hopefully this won't wreck his credit score worse than it currently is
We also are looking for support in being able to afford future vet visits and the recommended medication for Beans cognitive dysfunction syndrome! The medication on the pamphlet we were given says "Selegiline (L-Deprenyl) Hydrochloride (Anipryl, Eldepryl, Carbex)" And of course getting her some nice wet food and soft treats for the rest of her life with no teeth!
*06/24: We were able to get up to $150 from the Asheville Humane Society as well. We're looking at up to $850 in assistance now! We're so greatful!!
