Meet Vision Wheeler. My son Vision is 8 years old, non-verbal, and one of the most extraordinary human beings I have ever known. He communicates through an AAC device, sees the world in a way most people never will, and deserves an education that meets him exactly where he is. Vision doesn't need to be fixed. He needs a world big enough for who he already is.
Since moving to California, Vision has been placed in multiple schools — each one promising to support him, and each one falling short in heartbreaking ways. In October 2024, Vision was assaulted by a teacher's aide. We fought for a new placement and finally found what felt like hope. Then, on his 8th birthday — May 4th, 2026 — that school shut down following another assault on an autistic child caught on camera. I sat with my son on his birthday and made a decision: I am done waiting for the system to get it right.
I created The Wheeler Learning Academy, a private home school built entirely around Vision — his needs, his strengths, his joy. Every lesson is hands-on, sensory-rich, and designed for the way his beautiful brain works. He uses an AAC device to communicate, and every single school day is built around giving him more ways to express himself and experience the world.
Your donation will fund books and curriculum materials tailored for non-verbal and autistic learners, field trips to museums, nature centers, science exhibits, and cultural events that bring learning to life. It will also provide sensory and learning supplies, art materials, sensory tools, and educational technology that support the way Vision learns best. AAC support and communication tools will ensure Vision's voice is always with him. Our biggest dream is an RV for mobile, hands-on learning where Vision can explore the world as his classroom.
I am a jewelry maker. I handcraft every bracelet myself — beaded with intention, strung with love. At community events and farmers markets, I give away my bracelets as thank-you gifts to everyone who donates to Vision's education. Every bead. Every piece. Every donation goes toward giving my son the life he deserves. When you support Vision, you are investing in a child who will show you that learning looks different for everyone — and that different is extraordinary.
