Be Ms. Hakari's Hero (Medical)

January 10, 2017 started off like any other Tuesday in Kindergarten World. Ms. Dianne Hakari was working her lunch duty when all of a sudden, she felt extremely dizzy and disoriented. It was so sudden, that she could not even move. As soon as her colleagues were able to get her to the Nurse's Office, which is thankfully across the hall, she waited there for the paramedics to arrive.
Dianne arrived at the Baylor Scott & White Centennial ER in Frisco via ambulance. Once she was in the ER , they performed many laboratory tests. The results showed Dianne had a UTI (urinary tract infection). She was treated accordingly and sent home that evening with a diagnosis of a UTI and Vertigo. She was advised to take the rest of the week off and follow up with her primary care physician (PCP). Between being discharged and follow up,she had on & off nausea and dizzy spells.

January 16 was the appointment with Dianne's PCP. She experienced a dizzy spell, was given more medication for the nausea and sent home.

On January 17, Dianne experienced an episode that was worse than prior episodes. She was experiencing nausea and dizziness.

January 19th Dianne "wasn't feeling right" and stayed in bed most of the day. She had a wave of nausea and dizziness that resulted in her passing out in her bathroom. Somewhere before passing out, she had her phone close by and when she tried to call a friend for help. That's when 911 was called. Paramedics came in through her garage door and had to break down the door from her garage to inside of her house. They were unable to get the stretcher in to where she was, so they had to use sheets to wrap her in so she was stable enough to not have much movement (to avoid vomiting) to be able to move her from the bathroom floor to the stretcher and into the ambulance. She was then transported to Medical City Frisco.
Once at MCF, she was stabilized and a MRI was performed. It was then that they found fluid on Dianne's brain. She was then transferred to Medical City Plano for Neurological care.
At MCP, an Arteriogram was performed. 2 days later, a 2nd MRI was performed and the results showed that the fluid was gone..but a Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), more commonly known as a Stroke, showed up, which was not there on the first MRI. As a result of the stroke, she was unable to walk, has sensitivity to light and sound, and diminished processing skills. Because of the sensitivity to light, she had to purchase a pair of special glasses that were $1,000 and not covered by her insurance.

On February 3rd, Dianne was moved to Baylor Frisco In Patient Rehab. Here she did 3 hours of PT (physical therapy) and OT (occupational therapy) every day. Finally, on February 22nd, Dianne was discharged home!!

Since Dianne arrived home, she has in-home therapy 4 days a week. She is still unable to drive, is still using a walker, experiences headaches and elevated anxiety.

Her cardiologist has her on a heart monitor that she wears day and night and has gone through a battery of testing between the Neurologist and Cardiologist.

The medical bills are coming in non-stop from everywhere:
Neurologist
Cardiologist
Primary Care Physician
Radiology
Laboratory
In-Patient Rehab
Home Physical Therapy
Ambulances
Prescriptions
..along with everyday expenses.

All of this has just been overwhelming for Dianne. Her son, Brandon, lives in Oregon and her siblings live in Michigan. Dianne is in Texas all alone with her sweet dog, Tazz. She has a lot of support from her local friends, but it is so upsetting to Dianne that she is in this situation now. So much that it is hindering her recovery.

Dianne needs our help now. She has dedicated her life to teaching our children, our future. She has touched so many lives in such a positive way. All she wants to do is get better and go back to her 21 Kinder Babies. They miss her immensely. The Class of 2029 wants their Ms. Hakari back!

Any donation would be greatly appreciated and prayers are always needed!

Please be sure to share Dianne's story on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, with your e-mail contacts, etc! Let's help Dianne get back to what she really wants, to be healthy and to her classroom!

Stay tuned for more updates on Dianne, her progress,

Thank you for your time to read and supporting our sweet Ms. Hakari!
