Zero has turned 1 years old!
And that's a bittersweet occasion. "Why," might you ask? Because he has been given 2 years to live, 3 if we're (he's) lucky.
A very sick Zero and a very frustrated us after many emergency vet visits have found out that he was born with an abnormality: Portosystemic Shunt. Essentially blood is being delivered to the wrong area of his liver. This causes an excess of nitrogen build up in his body with all sorts of ailments that will lead to a short and painful life. It's manageable now with medications, but their abilities will soon wear off, and the spiral down soon to begin.
We struggled with what to do. The MRI alone will be $4-5K and the surgery to fix said findings from $2-12K.
"Okay, we'll give him the best year or two of his life!" is what we decided, but as time passed and the idea of knowing it would be a horrible end when it came (brain damage, seizures, bloating, jaundice, pain, multi-organ liver failure) we couldn't allow something that could very well be cured permanently by surgery. Yes, if the procedure goes off with no issues, Zero can lead a full and wonderful LONG LIFE!
I did not want to have to ask for a hand-out, but Zero is fine asking for a paw-out.
We need to raise money to save his life! I wish we had this kind of cash flow available to us, but we don't.
