Be There for Gina: Heart Surgery and Recovery

Hi All!
Please take a moment to read why we decided to raise money for my parents during this time.
I tried to keep this as short but as informative as I can.

We are making this GoFund me on behalf of my parents, Gina and Kevin Miller.
(Who are going to be upset that we are even making this) but really they are two of the most selfless people on Earth, who never ask for assistance in anything. They will, and have given the shirts off their backs for everyone and never except anything in return.

So we’re here to try and help lift some financial medical burdens off of them as they navigate needing to travel and relocate for the possibility of a month to a few months, so that my Mom can have a surgery preformed to save her life after years of basically being told “there was nothing further they can do.”

While we understand its tough times for anyone, it’s just crazy to think you cannot afford to be sick in this day and age.

For those of you who don’t know, my Mom (Gina) has had a number of increasing health issues over the years. Little backstory but short story, she has had a pacemaker for 32 years. Some of the wires associated with her pacemaker are very embedded in her heart.
(This will help to know throughout the below details.)

June 9th 2025, Gina will potentially be getting Open Heart Surgery, by ONE of TWO doctors who are qualified to preform this special high risk surgery in the States.
BUT FIRST, they will be attempting to go through her groin in an Hybrid EP lab and see if it’s feasible to remove 32 year old wires, some embedded in her heart, by laser extraction. These wires have caused a complete blockage in her heart and they will be replacing her old
pacemaker with a wireless pacemaker, plus an SVC stent.
(a small tube used to treat obstructions of the superior vena cava, the main vein for blood supply through your upper body to the right side of your heart.)
They want to try their best to avoid cracking her chest, but in the event it fails they will be cracking her chest immediately.

Our Mom my has suffered two strokes in the last 6 years, and while suffering her last stroke they discovered that my Moms heart had numerous things affecting her hearts ability to function.
1. A hole, yes a small hole was in heart.
2. A blockage (from the wires due to the pacemaker/defibrillator she has implanted in her heart to keep it beating)
3. A AVM ( Ateriovenous Malformation), which means her blood flow in heart was no longer flowing properly. Human anatomy is pretty amazing and It had created “new” pathways (collateral veins) to carry the blood flow, but the resolution her body came up with on its own meant that the AVM and its location, was being fed by these new pathways and it was growing pretty rapidly.
In 2023, she underwent a surgery where they “clamped off” some of the new pathways that was feeding the AVM, but we were told it was a 50/50 chance that it would be a longterm fix to her problems.

Fast Fwd to 2024, things began to worsen again. She thought maybe the surgery from 2023 was just the “failing” side of the 50/50 they had given. After attempting to get into her cardiologist group, she discovered a doctor through a friend in TN that might be able to help, beyond what they could do here in PA.

So my parents made the decision to pack up and travel to TN in late January 2025, in hopes that the calls of how imperative it was she needed to be seen, would bring a more immediate anwser than the appointment she was originally given for months later.

Their prayers were answered and she was seen the following week after they arrived.
They met with the surgeon and were given a course of action by him and his team.

While I can spare alot of details, again this surgeon is ONE of TWO in the States that can preform this special skill set surgery on our Mom. The other surgeon is located in CA, so traveling to TN is the most suitable option.

The recovery time will be at least one month minimal if the Doctors 1st plan works and she is able to forego open heart, but in the scenario it is needed, the recovery time will be additional, which means….the length of time that is required for my parents to stay in TN increases, which means more costs keep acquiring.

You can imagine how the costs of having a home and everyday bills, plus short term renting AirBnB’s, and out of state medical bills/ect , will be multiplying rapidly and cause tremendous stress during what is already a very stressful time.
We all live in this economy. It’s a struggle for all.

If you made it this far, thank you! If you are unable to afford to assist in raising some money, please keep my Mom and Dad in your daily prayers, they will appreciate that more than you know!

Thank you so much for any monetary raised!

All our love,
Nicole Bailey and Andrew Miller
