"Be Strong, Izzy"

Hi, my name is Jessica. My husband is Craig. We have a 2 year old boy, a 5 month old girl & a 12 year old beagle. I am fundraising for my sweet furbaby, Izzy. I rescued her from a puppy mill when she was about 4 months old & very sick. She pulled through then & we are praying she will pull through now !

Izzy started getting sick on Monday morning and there wasn't any availability in the surrounding or local veterinary offices. We proceeded to an emergency veterinarian. She could not walk, was regurgitating (even with water), diarrhea, extremely lethargic. Izzy was diagnosed with Cushing's disease just a few months ago, which makes things more complicated. They could not determine what was making her so sick at first but she had a very painful abdomen. This made imaging challenging. It was recommended to keep her in the hospital overnight, continuing blood work, administering fluids & pain meds, along with a couple other medications to determine what was wrong. (~$1,500) -OR- take her home and attempt to administer pain meds orally ($777). The only real option was to keep her in the hospital overnight, otherwise, she would have suffered much worse because she couldn't keep anything in her stomach, let alone pain medication.
TOTAL AS OF 9/13/21 = $1,240.46

Tuesday morning, the emergency vet called and recommended that I transfer Izzy to OSU Veterinaty Hospital immediately for emergency surgery to remove a gallbladder mucocele. Izzy was very weak, depressed and experiencing immense pain. I got her to OSU right away (kids in tow this whole time) and they rushed her in. The doctors at OSU did their own exam, blood work and imaging. Based on their findings, it was recommended to proceed with surgery with an 80% POSITIVE PROGNOSIS. ($4,000-6,000) We made the decision to proceed with the surgery, as the doctors & surgeons believed she had a fighting chance.
Izzy made it through surgery but was in CRITICAL CONDITION. During surgery, she required blood pressure meds to support it and not allow it to drop too low. Once a full abdominal incision was made, the surgeons found several areas of concern & removed them for biopsies but believing that they are benign. Gall bladder & spleen fully removed, along with several masses on the liver. Her left adrenal gland was enlarged but they left that alone. Profound diarrhea during surgery. This was when we were told that she now had a 20% chanceof leaving the hospital. Several lines, BP support meds, pain meds, GI meds. She was dealing with a LOT & being cared for in the ICU.
TOTAL AS OF 9/14/21 = $7,240.46

Wednesday update:
Izzy was still struggling with low BP issues so trying different meds. Added more pain medication since she seemed visibly uncomfortable (3rd pain rx). Throughout the day, attempt to taper any BP meds were unsuccessful so took a pause on that. She did stand up & look around today. Still regurgitating so trying a medication to stop that. Fever- no known cause at this point but giving antibiotics to combat any infection risks. She did not love getting oxygen through a cone (hoping she doesn't develop pneumonia) so trying room air.
TOTAL AS OF 9/15/21 = $9,240.46

Thursday update:
Tapering of BP meds is going better today. Overnight, she did have an episode of labored breathing for about an hour- possible blood clots but they already had her on blood thinners to combat this. Only regurgitated once overnight & none during the day. Izzy was getting ornery- wedging her nose between her crib mattress and the rails, wanting to crawl out. They took her on her first walk post surgery. She got tired, but that was expected. She enjoyed getting some fresh air & sunshine ! They administered some food through a feeding tube and this went well. In the afternoon, she took herself on another walk, laid in the grass & sunbathed. (I told them she was trying to look for her mommy ! I have not been allowed to see her AT ALL during this time due to covid restrictions). Thankfully, I have been able to receive a couple pictures. They seem much more optimistic at this point with our strong, sweet Izzy. She is acting like she is ready to break free from the tubes and come home... today was a good day.
TOTAL AS OF 9/16/21 = ~$11,000-$13,240.46

This battle has been so incredibly hard on us, my son, Oliver, & everyone who knows how sweet natured Izzy truly is. When she got sick several days ago, we had NO IDEA that we would be set back so many thousands of dollars. In April, we added a baby girl to our family and I have been staying at home to raise our babies. We would truly do anything for the ones we love & Izzy is one of those things. We are asking for donations to help in this financial struggle. I will be providing copies of our bills for full transparency. Thank you for taking the time to read Izzy's story.
