Be Positive For Ollie

Donativo protegido
On February 17th, 2019, my sweet, joyful, giggly nephew Oliver was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-Cell). From the minute Ollie was born, he's been a beam of light in all of our lives. He is a compassionate, fun loving 21 month old who loves to dance, be chased, play with trucks, read books, and can't get enough Paw Patrol. Ollie exudes love, purity, and innocence. He’s a constant reminder of the importance of laughter and fun and has already taught us so much about the power of resiliency.

The past week has been a whirlwind of emotions. My sister, Jackie and brother-in-law, Ryan recently  learned more about his treatment plan and the intensive care that he will require as he undergoes chemotherapy. We're all still in shock, and can wholeheartedly agree that we never expected anything like this to happen to Ollie Bear. As we adjust to a new normal, we’re doing everything we can to stay optimistic about his journey.  With the proper care and treatment, we’re confident that his little body will be restored back to 100% health.

Since diagnoses, he underwent surgery to implant his port-a-cath, an internal device in his chest to allow for chemotherapy and blood draws. He has also received multiple blood transfusions, a bone marrow biopsy, spinal tap, and started chemotherapy. He will continue to receive treatments at UMASS Medical Hospital for the next 2.5 to 3 years, with the first 6-9 months being the most intensive.

We are all in awe of Jackie and Ryan’s strength and unwavering positivity as they begin Ollie’s road to recovery. We imagined how we might help, and how in turn, we could give others the opportunity to help too. After learning the reality of future financials for the next three years, it’s become clear that even with insurance, co-pays, deductibles, and unexpected frequent visits to the hospital will accumulate. A normal “common cold” may require hospital stays; and chemotherapy side effects may require additional doctors visits, prescriptions, and continued clinic visits resulting in lost work days for Ryan and Jackie.

If you would like to help contribute to Ollie’s road to recovery, a donation of any amount is appreciated. Should you find you’re not able to donate at this time, please know your continued prayers, positive thoughts, and blood donations are gifts beyond words. We sincerely thank you for being on this journey with us and look forward to sharing Ollie’s progress.
