Terrified. Powerless. Anxious. Leukemia.

These are the words and emotions our friend, Shanda, and her family have been drowning in since the morning of May 11th, when their daughter, Kaeley, 15 years old, was rushed to Kansas City by life flight and diagnosed with AML—an aggressive form of leukemia. She has now tested positive for the FLT3-ITD mutation.

Kaeley—their ladybug, their bug, their sassypants, their K—started her fight with inpatient chemo on 5/13.

She’s facing 6 months of treatment- chemo every 12 hours. She will have two weeks off in between… then we start again. And again. And again.

This is the fight of her life—and she’s facing it with strength, courage, and her signature stubborn fire.

GoFundMe—something we never imagined our friends needing. They have good insurance, good jobs, and a nest egg, but are quickly learning those won’t cover the costs of living away from their home for six months or more, especially with one parent who does not work remotely, not being able to work to be beside their kiddo in Kansas City.

-A comfortable outpatient home in KC for Kaeley to rest and recover between treatments.

-Travel expenses so their family can stay by her side throughout this journey. Some of us are so blessed to get to work remotely.
