Donation protected
All donations given through this Go Fund Me will be used to help with the cost of Destiny's Physical Therapy, and to get her walking again. Since mid-February, God has done an incredible miracle by working through alternative physical therapy methods to heal Destiny's legs and to give her the strength to walk again. If you have ever met Destiny, then you have come into contact with the joy, hope, love, and strength of Jesus, because Destiny exemplifies Him in her daily life and blesses everyone she meets. This is an opportunity for you to be a part of what God is doing, to be part of the miracle, and to be used by God to help heal and restore someone. The Young family is grateful for any amount given, and is excited to testify to God's grace, and the generosity of His people once this miracle is complete. We are believing in FULL HEALING, and are going to give God all of the praise WHEN Destiny WALKS into church, stands, and praises Jesus!!
A message from Destiny's husband, Sean:
Destiney’s story isn’t complete, but her journey has been filled with trials and tribulations that took a turn almost five years ago. She’s always been a woman of faith, and even in the early years of our relationship, she was the religious influence on our family. This faith was tested and remained unwavering even when she found out she had a shingles outbreak.
This discovery came weeks later, as the hospital told her she just had a headache and sent her home twice. It wasn’t until we went to her family doctor that they thought to do a thorough examination and found the cluster of shingles on the rib cage area of her left side. For weeks, the pain grew and spread, and unfortunately, it made its way into her face and ear area, which they call Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (diagnosis 1).
These shingles were intense and kept coming back over the span of several months. During this time, we found out that it had spread into her optic nerve, severely affecting her vision in her left eye. We spent several days in hospitals and driving back and forth from specialists, and she found out she has an autoimmune disease, meaning her body couldn’t fight as much as normal. She was placed on antivirals for an entire year.
After several months, there was a change in her intestines and stomach, which immediately caused her stomach to hurt and become inflamed. She had her first week-long hospitalization at this time, during which several tests were done, but no real answers or resolutions were found. After two more trips to the hospital, they finally stated they didn’t have the team there that she would need to go elsewhere for a diagnosis or a possible solution.
This prompted our hospital tour of North Carolina.
We spent seven days in Wilmington Hospital, then ten days, and ultimately 18 days hospitalized in Greenville. This is where she was diagnosed with gastroparesis (diagnosis 2) and referred to Duke. Several tests were done at Duke, and she was diagnosed with Global Dysmotility and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (diagnoses 3 and 4). She was put on a liquid nutrition diet because she couldn’t keep any food down, and the food she did manage to keep in her stomach wasn’t passing or being absorbed correctly. Nausea and vertigo symptoms from the start of her Ramsay Hunt syndrome also kept her from getting the appropriate nutrition needed to survive. We believe at this point the shingles nerve damage made it to her intestines and caused damage.
Duke referred us to Wake Forest, and they passed us on to the Cleveland Clinic. During all this, Covid started, which of course, delayed every appointment and had lasting impacts on the in-between visits. Every month, we were hospitalized for at least a week at a time. Stomach tubes, feeding tubes, PICC lines, Hickman lines, infection after infection, surgeries after surgeries—it seemed like we lived in the hospital for the first two years of this sickness.
In August of 2022, Destiney’s body was shutting down, and she was hours from death. Starvation Ketoacidosis had her hospitalized for ten days in Ohio, and if it weren’t for the grace of God, I would have lost my wife. After being discharged from the hospital, her brain function was impacted, and she had a hard time speaking and remembering. She lost an entire year and a half of her memory.
Then the seizures/mini-strokes started.
For twelve hours at a time, her body would seize up for about 45 seconds at a time, every 7-9 minutes! Nurses and doctors were in awe of what her body was doing. This happened repeatedly over the next eight months. During each episode, she lost a little more of her ability to speak, use her left arm, and use her left leg.
While she was able to walk some during this time, her left leg eventually just stopped responding and became limp. Completely wheelchair-bound since 2022, our struggle with insurance to get her physical therapy or even a good working wheelchair so she could regain her independence started. Family chipped in, and we got a couple of power chairs on our own, but it wasn’t until mid-2024 that she finally got her wheelchair approved.
From the start, we have asked for referrals and requested physical therapy to try and use her leg again. She worked hard to be able to speak on her own and eventually regained her speech, but the words are still hard to come by at times. We worked on her left arm and hand and eventually got them working again, though there’s still weakness. Her leg, however, just didn’t respond. Insurance wouldn’t cover her physical therapy, and the cost was far out of our reach, so we’ve just been pushing through and praying... and God has worked and shown us another way.
Enter a small business that just opened up, where they use harnesses and bungee systems to support a person’s weight while they train. God’s plan had us call and ask for them to try it out and think outside the traditional physical therapy box, and they answered yes! They took a chance on her and set aside fears and doubts, and through the grace of God, we are one week in.
She’s regained so much movement, strength, and feeling in her whole body, but most especially in her left leg. Insurance doesn’t cover this treatment, but we are going to tell Destiney’s story and use it as an example of what faith in God, even in despair and hopelessness, can accomplish. We are going to make a movement to take it to Congress and create a bill to allow options like Fly Bodies to be used as a physical therapy alternative and allow patients to have a say in their recovery without waiting on red tape or financial hurdles. Destiney’s Bill will be a starting point for so many other people who are lost in the insurance game.
Destiney’s story will hopefully reach the masses, spread the good works of our God, bring more people into His light, and glorify Him! Even in her hardest struggles, even when she’s screaming out in pain from pushing to walk again, even when tears are flowing down her face from joy and excitement, Destiney gives thanks to God and knows He’s working through her, the team at Fly Bodies, and through her story! She smiles and says, “Praise God!”
