When we go to a hospital, we don’t worry about whether or not lifesaving resources are “in stock.” Our furry friends, however, experience a much grimmer reality.

The fact is that 1 in 3 pets will need a transfusion. In California, where the shortage is particularly severe, that amounts to over 3 million dogs that may be without lifesaving blood when they need it.

As the shortage has persisted, prices have risen by up to 200% or more with months-long lead times. Even at inflated prices, veterinarians struggle to get what they need. In some cases vets have used their own pets as donors. In other cases euthanasia is the only financially viable option for the owner.

This is a level of pain and heartbreak that cannot be allowed to persist. No pet should die because blood is unavailable.

We are Animal Blood Center, a brand-new community-based pet blood bank in California with a mission to ethically and sustainably meet the urgent pet blood supply needs of our community.

Our bold new model will be community-based with pet owners empowered to save lives ethically through donor events and veterinary clinics able to receive blood products as needed, on time, and reliably.

We're starting with a lean, scalable lab setup: focused on canine whole blood, red blood cells, and plasma. We're actively seeking investment to grow and expand. But this phase? This is the community phase. And we need your help.
