Be part of Bobby's healing, rehabilitation, and renewal❤️

On September 1st, our mother and father, Sheila and Robert (Bobby), were involved in a horrifically tragic accident while riding with friends in Charlemont. Along one of our usual group motorcycle routes to Shelburne Falls, a Jeep crossed over into their lane at full highway speed, causing a crash that tragically took Sheila’s life and left Bobby severely injured and without his soulmate. He suffered a massive abdominal injury, lost his left leg, ruptured his spleen, and unfortunately, saving his left arm is still questionable as far as reconstruction viability.

We’re still processing the extent of his injuries, but it’s clear that his life has forever changed in so many ways.

Our dad is a very proud man—strong, independent, and always known for his creativity. From the time he was a young man, he built his life with his own hands, but now he faces a future where he won’t be able to work or create in the same way. The road ahead is going to be long and challenging, with frustrating moments of adjustment to his rehabilitated but compromised body. His days are going to go from what used to be filled with work, play and bike rides to now days filled with rehabilitation challenges, medication/device adjustments and prosthetic fittings.

Once through the inpatient recovery process, his son Adam will be moving Bobby into his home during the long rehabilitation phases of his recovery. Both Adam's home and Bobby's home will need ADA access and functionality adjustments. There will be massive medical bills we never imagined we’d be facing. There's insurance coverage, but there are so many massive expenses insurance will not cover now or ever. Some of us, such as Adam, his health proxy, have had to rent motel rooms, take leave from work, and completely rearrange our lives to care for and support our father in this time of great loss and need.

We'd all love to say "we got this," but the reality of it is this is going to take the efforts of his entire "village" to overcome. We'd give anything to not be in this position, but this is our reality. Bobby is loved by many, and now we find ourselves asking something we'd NEVER ask. If you cannot donate, please just pray for him every day, pray he can find happiness beyond this great loss. Pray that he finds Sheila in all that remains and pray that Sheila and Bobby will remain beautiful and happy in their "Eternal Spring." ❤️☀️

It’s hard for us to ask for help, especially in a time like this, but right now, we don’t have many other options. We’re raising funds to help cover his medical expenses, future prosthetics, home modifications to make his space accessible, and the ongoing care he’ll need. Every bit of support, whether it’s a donation or sharing this page, means more than we can express.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your kindness during this incredibly difficult time.

With gratitude,
The Squires & Rombeiro family
