It takes a Village

They say it takes a village and it does!  Sometimes our village lives far away when we are in need and they still want to find a way to help.  Alex is our family and we are part of her village. We want to help all that we can. Over the years Alex has endured several medical complications and surgeries. She suffers from a rare autoimmune disorder called Takayasu arteritis, which is a systemic disease that has affected her cardiovascular system, as well as cause her immune system to be compromised. A few months ago she had a major heart surgery and was recovering well. However, most recently, she is fighting for her health from an infection that would not normally affect you if your immune system was healthy.  Alex has been having unexplained fevers for months, and has now been told it is due to a fungal infection that has disseminated into her bone marrow. She has been diagnosed with Secondary HLH (hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) due to this fungal infection. This has involved long hospital stays and has been very stressful for her and her family (to say the least).  She is also unable to see her children or care for them during this time.  Please help us raise money to help with her expenses, and so that Alex can have her most important person from her village by her side, her mom. No matter what age you are, having your mom by your side helps in your healing.  Rosario, Alex’s mom, lives and works in El Paso. To see how caring and loving of a woman she is when she takes care of Alex, makes us realizes how crucial she is to Alex’s healing. We do not know how long it may take for Alex to recover and get back the strength to then care for her own family. We would love to provide enough funds to fly her mother back to Chicago plus cover all expenses during the weeks or months she will need to be there with Alex, away from work.  Please help us be her village.
