Welcome to Be Like Jeff - Live Heads Up - where we celebrate longtime Lake Oswego Football Coach Jeff Young, who exemplifies what it means to Live Heads Up, no matter what challenges come our way.
Jeff has been a part of the Oregon football community his entire life, playing football at Lake Oswego High School, then Southern Oregon University. He eventually transferred to the University of Oregon to focus on academics. It was there where he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease. Jeff was told to prepare for the worst and given just a few years to live..... that was 42 years ago.
While Jeff found success in his early years by focusing on training his body to peak physical condition, he later discovered how powerful our thoughts can be. Jeff quickly decided that he would commit to living his best life - 24/7 - while refusing to let negative thoughts enter his mind.
Since that time, Jeff has accomplished countless goals in life, including coaching high school football, being a part of two state football championships, numerous stories on ESPN, and the author of countless motivational messages.
Young With Heart (YWH), formerly known as Friends of Jeff (FOJ), is a volunteer community dedicated to sharing the wisdom of ALS survivor Jeff Young and helping him live his best life while he continues his mission to lead and inspire others. Live Heads Up, a company that promotes optimism and grit, recognized Jeff’s strength, perseverance and messages and created the campaign, BE LIKE JEFF.
Jeff continues to live independently but relies heavily on government benefits that do not cover all the costs associated with living with such a debilitating disease. ALS never takes a day off, nor does Jeff and is expenses. It is only through the generosity of others that allows Jeff to continue his mission. As Jeff continues his commitment to positivity and inspiring others, YWH is committed to helping support Jeff through his need to amplify his voice for helping others and helping with his ever-increasing financial needs. All donations are used to help offset Jeff’s increasing costs of care and survival.
