Having been a volunteer with the Be Free Campaign for the past 5 years and seeing the incredible work the charity does, I wanted to complete this walk to support the charity with their amazing campaigns and initiatives and contribute to their Big Give Challenge.
The Be Free Campaign are a youth-led mental health charity providing evidence-based, culturally-informed support to young people aged 11–25. The charity delivers preventive programmes, early intervention counselling and mental health education for schools and communities, while campaigning for a fairer, more inclusive mental health system across the UK.
My partner (Lydia) and I will be walking Offa's Dyke Path, a 177 miles, or 285km walk across the length of Wales in one continuous journey over 12 days. Starting in Chepstow we will travel through the Wye Valley , p towards the Shropshire Hills and finally through Clwydian Range to finish in Prestatyn.
This walk is symbolic to me as I currently live in Bristol and I got to know the charity whilst living in Liverpool during my undergraduate degree. The walk represents the rough distance between Bristol and Liverpool.
Having struggled with my mental health as a young person, I understand the importance of providing mental health support and destigmatising this topic.
I hope this challenge can continue the conversation about young people's mental health and raise some funds for this absolutely amazing charity.
