Be a part of Ryan’s fearless fight

To all who have the pleasure of knowing Ryan Beauchamp,

As most of you may know by now, Memorial Day weekend ended tragically when one of our own was involved in a swimming accident. Ryan unfortunately dove into shallow water and as a result fractured his C5 vertebrae. This in turn caused injury to his spinal cord. He suffered loss of movement and sensation in all four limbs. Ryan was rushed to Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc. After being seen by the emergency room providers and neurology/trauma teams, Ryan was airlifted to Henry Ford in Detroit for emergency surgery in order to repair and stabilize his neck to the best of the surgeons ability. After a total of 2 long and grueling surgeries Ryan was back in his room with family and loved ones surrounding him. Since then Ryan has being overcoming battles that were once daily tasks.

It is no secret that Ryan embodies strength, bravery, and a fighting spirit. While these traits are what make Ryan Beauchamp who he is, watching him push himself through his rehabilitation has been especially inspirational to anyone who has witnessed. This tragedy would be difficult on any individual, which is what makes his personal rehabilitation so impelling. Watching someone who spends free time in the gym, is always down to spend a day outdoors, and loves anything that involves physical activity push through this challenge has been nothing less than galvanizing.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ryan is going to use every fiber in his being to squeeze every drop of healing out of his rehabilitation. However, this is not going to be a quick journey. Ryan has a long road ahead of him. This road includes the inability to work. Unfortunately, as we all know, life doesn’t stop. Bills still accrue. Furthermore, Ryan just acquired medical bills that a 22 year old is just not equip to pay for. Something so unexpected at an age where you are just beginning to build a life for yourself.

It takes a village.
