Hello all! My name is Natosha and I am Lorne’s wife. I am reaching out to friends, family and any supporters to help with Lorne’s road to recovery.
On Saturday, August 12th, my husband was admitted into the hospital after running a fever for an entire week. After several attempts at home and 2 urgent care trips to get his fever under control and find the root of the cause, he was finally admitted after the 3rd ER visit. During the entire week prior to the admission, Lorne’s symptoms started to worsen as each day passed and started to take a toll on him physically. What we weren’t prepared for was the news we would be receiving as to what was going on.
After lots of tests were ran and several different specialists examined him, we found out he had a severe bacterial infection in his bloodstream. This infection had spread to most of his organs including, his brain, spleen, liver, kidneys and heart. The infection spread to his left foot as well. After further examining, we found Lorne had a stroke and that the bulk of the bacteria was on his aortic valve in his heart.
Lorne has already had to have a foot procedure done to clean out the infection. However, the biggest obstacle lies ahead and that’s heart surgery to replace the aortic valve. This is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 18th after being rescheduled due to the foot issue.
We are told that he could possibly be in the hospital for a few more weeks due to the severity of his condition. Once he is released from the hospital, he will need to receive antibiotics intravenously for about 6 weeks to continue to rid his body of the infection completely. He will also need physical therapy to regain his muscle strength from the stroke and heart surgery.
We have a really long road ahead of us and we know this will affect our job situations in a major way. However, the number one goal is to make sure Lorne can get back to a normal life the best way possible. We are grateful for all of the prayers and well wishes and would like to ask to keep praying. This is a major life change and it will take some time to adjust.
Thank you all!
