As many of you may know my precious daughter, Lauren, was diagnosed with being on the Autism Spectrum Disorder when she was only 23 months old. Since she was born, her father and I have always been proactive in obtaining Lauren the therapies she needed due to her being born premature and are fierce advocates for our daughter. From the time she was 2 1/2 years old she has been receiving Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy Monday through Friday for 3 hours a day in our home. ABA Therapy helps with acquiring skills such as language and functional living skills and reduces maladaptive behaviors that may impede on the child's daily living or that may cause injury to themselves or others.
The behavioral therapy has made a world of difference in her development and I know that she will continue to make even more progress in the future. Even though the therapy has helped we would like to explore other options that can provide her with a better quality of life.
Recently, we learned of a new and innovative approach to treating Autism called MeRT and is conducted at a center in Miami. MeRT is a non-invasive and drug-free treatment that uses electromagnetic pulses to retrain brain activity. A typical course of MeRT varies, but on average ranges between 4-6 weeks, Monday through Friday.
Although Lauren has health insurance this treatment is not covered and costs a whopping $9,500 and we will have to cover all the costs ourselves. As a mother, I am willing to try anything that could possibly help my daughter have a better quality of life. Treating her autism while she is little is key which is why it is important she receive the treatment now.
I know times are tough but if you can afford to donate please help us raise the money so our daughter can partake in this innovative treatment that could possibly help change her life. Thank you.
